DH is ridiculously picky about decorating and I'm having a hard time finding a dining table we both like. It's for a small space, so ideally would be round and about 42". Expandable would be awesome.
Generally speaking, he does not go for the mid-century modern look that seems to be so popular right now (yes, I know that scholar table has some mcm flare).
In all seriousness - if you have a small room, don't go with a table with a large, "heavy" base - the RH and World Market tables both have bases that will overwhelm a small space. Pick something a little more delicate and lighter and the room will feel more open.
Lastly - have you checked overstock.com. I've actually bought a really nice wood credenza/tv stand from there. Sometimes they have great stuff.

Yeah, you're definitely right about the heavy base. I'll keep scouring the web for something more open.
I've looked at overstock. Unfortunately, they don't have many round tables right now.
I'm not a huge fan of them either, but he really doesn't like the mid-century modern look and those just scream that.
I just found the perfect table from an amish furniture dealer. 42", round, expandable with options for how many leaves you want, great style, choose your finish. It's freaking $1,300 with shipping. Ugh. I'm actually considering it.
