This is inspired by the random person ringing my doorbell at 9:45 a.m. this morning (I'm a teacher, off for the summer). Yes, I was awake, yes, I was in my PJs, no, I didn't answer the door because I don't answer the door if I don't know you or didn't invite you! I need to get that "No Soliciting & No Proselytizing" sign I found online...
Sure they can ring my doorbell, but it doesn't necessarily mean I'll answer. I say after 9:00 am. My DD will sometimes sleep in until after 8:30, so if someone rings it before then and wakes her up, I will be pissed and whoever is at the door will face the wrath of an angry mother.

I can't avoid not answering the door because my 5 year old is a lot like a dog. Hears a knock and freaks the eff out, looking out the window. Can't pretend I'm not home with his head through the blinds!
We usually only get door-to-door people in the worst heat of the day, usually during the dinner hours. So I use the "we're about to eat dinner/dinner is on the stove top/I'm broke and pregnant" excuses and get them off my porch fast.
I live in an area that if someone is going to drive all the way down my driveway and come to my door they either 1) are very lost, 2) in an emergency, 3) PD selling BBQ Sauce, or 4) serial killers.
Since I've been at my house I've had one person ring the bell that I wasn't aware was coming, she was the granddaughter of someone a mile or so down the road and was surprising her grandmother. She had never driven in the area and was lost.
At the farm we would get someone once every 3-4 months, we can't avoid them either because we have 2 very large dogs that go running after them (for attention and love, but strangers don't know that), so we usually step out on the porch to let them know that it's ok.

This is hilarious! I am imagining him doing what my dog back in the day used to do - grabbing the curtains in his mouth and shaking his head from side to side, growling and barking! Ahhhahahahaha!!!! ;D
I said 9:00. To me that's ok on a weekday, but on the weekends, it should be after 10. But I also view someone ringing my doorbell as the same as someone calling me on the phone, just because they ring the doorbell, it does not mean I have to answer the door. I don't care if they see me or not. Just because it's a convenient time for them to stop by my house, doesn't mean it is convenient for me.
