DH tiled our bathroom and the transition from that to hardwood in hall is minimal to just about the same height. he says we need a marble saddle. I distinctly recall the lady at the tile shop saying that a wood saddle stained the same as hard wood is better so that there are not 3 different materials in door way. WYH&G do?
It's really up to you. We have marble transitions in our tiled bathrooms... that goes from tile to marble to carpet. While you're point about having three different materials is a valid one, this kind of transition is commonplace and is generally attractive. It can serve as a nice visual break between the bathroom and the adjoining space. I'd say larger pieces like the marble actually look better because they are larger.
A wood threshold is also a fine option. They are usually a little smaller, but as long as it's stained the same color as your floor, you can't really go wrong.
The marble will also need to be sat in a thinset while the wood just needs to get nailed into place.
yeah, ditto john. There isn't a functional reason for one or the other really. (watch fox come in here and tell me I'm wrong on that) I like the look of marble thresholds, so that's what we're using.

Nope you can use whatever threshold you want. Personally I would stick with one that either matched the tile or the HW floors. Wood ones are much cheaper and easier to get in odd sizes and pitches.
