My sister just bought into it and I don't know if I should be laughing at her or not. I can't keep this stuff straight.
She posted on FB that she's a Young Oils user now and revamped her medicine cabinet. No more synthetic meds, everything natural and baby-friendly for her or her family.
my mom and MIL have both gotten into essential oils. I think it's the latest trendy thing for moms of any age, like Thirty One and Scentsy and stuff. I only use one essential oil: peppermint oil. 2 drops, rub into my belly below my belly button about every other night, and it keeps me regular. I've noticed a difference and have stopped taking my colace. apparently it's not pregnancy friendly though.
I don't think it's too woowoo but I do agree that the peppermint oil works, at least. and I'm a nurse, I don't get into much alternative medicine.
Oh no. I find the Young Living people to be a lot more nutters (believing it can cure cancer and all diseases) than the doTerra users.
Both can be a little nutso though if they start buying into the hype of things that aren't medically possible.
ANYWAY, all that said, I have some lemon oil and orange oil because I'm a sucker. The orange oil is supposed to help with attention...yeah...you won't be surprised when I say I didn't notice a difference. But it smells divine.
I don't think they are a cure for cancer or anything but I have some that I love and use a lot. Tea tree oil, lavender, and lemon are my favorites. I still have a medicine cabinet full of Tylenol and benadryl but I think th e oils can be useful too.

I like them but a lot of it is woo. If you really read the doTerra/Young Living pins on Pinterest, you will roll your eyes A LOT. I am trying not to throw the baby out with the bathwater though, I do like oils for adding to cleaning supplies, scenting lotions, etc. and would like a diffuser for them.
I gave up any potential interest in essential oils when my postpartum nurse made me sniff peppermint oil to try to get me to pee. She poured it in the toilet and was like "lean over and sniff" and I'm all, "lady, I pushed a 9.5 pound baby out an hour ago, do you even know what else is in that toilet?"

So no. No no no.
The fuck?
Besides the fact that that's crazy, why did she pour it in the toilet? Why couldn't you just hold the bottle in your hand to sniff it?

I'm not opposed to it for fragrance reasons or because lavender is soothing , etc., but she's making it sound like a cure-all, no Tylenol for fevers or anything, which makes me go "hmmmm."

Really??? Interesting. See, I'd totally try this (and will). But when you start talking about curing cancer and stuff, well, yeah.... lol. But I think it has it's place, sure.

careful now... use too much and it acts like a laxative. holy moly. 1-2 drops every 2-3 nights as needed, really.

I use some. I'm not completely sold on them. I did get a bit of a sun burn a few days ago. It was uncomfortable. I remembered to try my lavender oil, and it worked. Like better than aloe. It was weird.
I like Young Living stuff. I just wish it wasn't $$$$.
I use lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus, and lemon for scenting cleaning supplies and in my reed diffusers, plus some aromatherapy (lavender + deep breathing exercises will calm me down and keep me from having a panic attack, it helps with headaches...I jokingly call it my 'smelling salts', but I seriously need to start carrying a vile of it, lol)

Have you used peppermint oil for headaches? This whole weekend my H has been suffering from a severe headache and also now has ulcers that are causing him severe pain. Obviously he can't take Ibproufen and Tylenol isn't touching it. Peppermint oil was recommended for his headache. Where do you get it?

I haven't used it for headaches, I ought to try it. tylenol doesn't help my headaches and I'm not allowed ibuprofen (or any NSAID) due to TTC.
I bought mine in the organic section of the grocery store. it's a common brand I've seen, Aura Cacia.
Tee tree oil is a natural antiseptic and it's absorbed by the skin very easily. I get skin staph infections and boils (bad immune system because of lupus), and it works a million times better than any of the shit I ever got from a doctor.
CVS agrees, they sell bottles in the wound care area for a fraction of the price of those essential oil nutters.

I love tea tree oil for skin issues. My old office used thieves oil to help us not get sick. I really believe it worked. I need to get some for my classroom.
