Hello! I used to post on TN F&B board awhile ago, but I got a new laptop, forgot the password that was saved on the old one, and went into lurker mode. I live outside of DC, turned 30 this year, and I teach high school social studies. Since I'm off for the summer, I don't have any OOTDs to post, but I might in the fall. I love clothes and remixing outfits. I also love nails and haircare, but I'm lazy when it comes to make-up. It's nice to "meet" you all!

Welcome! I'm extremely hair and nail obsessed. My salon consultations start 36 hours in advance via email and FB. Yes, I know it's quite obsessive, but it works.

I know exactly what that's like! I had to find a new stylist, because my guy moved, and I pinned a bunch of looks that I was considering. The new girl did a consultation with her ipad and she had most of the same pictures. She started recommending one cut and I said "yeah, that's the small things blog". We had a great convo about bloggers that we follow. There aren't many "new" hair pictures on the internet anymore!

Fun! My sits with when I'm processing to dicuss designers, bloggers, and fashion week. The other stylists also "drop by" her station for nail, shopping, and entertainment tips. They also serve wine. It's my happy place. I love B&B Brillantine for keeping my hair in check. I'm taking a break from Alterna to switch over to Sojourn. They have the best thermal spray.
I have yet to find a salon around here who serves wine, but I would be in heaven. My last place went next door to get your coffee order and I was pretty darn happy with that, too.
I'm doing a "hair break" for the summer. I'm a teacher and I swim everyday in the summer, so I let the hair color and heat processing go for a few months before I pick it up again.

I swim regularly too. I wet my hair condition it heavily and then leave the product in to swim. I've coated in in coconut oil to swim too, but used too much. People mistake me for a natural blonde even though I'm a bleach girl. I get Kadus color which is amazing. We use a lot of tricks to keep mine healthy. Stylist shopping is my nightmare.
My salon is part owned by Sublime and The Dirty Heads current manager. They are regulars when they are in town as well as Chad Kroeger, Kid Rock, Uncle Kracker, Slash, and a couple others. He gets the stylists work at Maxim Parties and sporting events when they use talent for anything. It's a crazy fun place and not much more than anywhere else in the market. They also do what is referred to as "sampling:" If someone has an opening or more for a cut in a day, they announce it on FB and all the cuts booked in those slots are free cuts aka samples of the stylists work. It keeps everyone busy and gives established clients to see someone else and get a back up stylist. I love that feature!
Damn girl, you just kicked my salon envy up a few more notches! That sounds so cool.
I actually have a jar of coconut oil that I bought a few months ago, but never used. It got too hot and kind of thinned out, but I'd love to still use it. How much should I use before swimming? My hair is very thick and long bob length.

I would probably say around a tablespoon or less. Start with a half. I think it would be great if I had used just enough to cover instead of grabbing more and more. Just wet the hair and run it through. I think I used way more than that since I have long hair and went crazy. I shampooed and conditioned right after. Mine got really greasy, but was super soft, which is why I think I went too crazy. I used probably around 4 tablespoons or more which was crazy.
I totally just stumbled on my salon through a FB friend liking them. For where I have to live, the salon is the only good thing and it's over an hour each way, but since people still do perms and 80's bangs I wont set foot in a closer one.
