I didn't post much at all but thought I'd share a little about my labor/birth to hopefully help someone else. Monday I'd been having contractions all day, sporadic, then regular about 10 min apart and by evening they were coming really fast but not lasting long. (Every 3 min and 30 seconds). Called my doctor and said to wait til the 512 rule applied....I was mad and frustrated. Well I told my husband we are going in anyways to get checked.
At hospital was finally checked at 7:45 and I was 3 cm. told to walk for an hour and come back. I felt like crying. Walked for 15 min and said there's no way. After 5 more min I felt the need to push. We went back to triage and no one was there. Went in bathroom and told my husband to find someone. Had another contraction and felt like pushing and was yelling for help. My husband had found a nurse who showed up just in time to catch baby. It was very crazy.
My lesson here is to go with your gut. I knew baby was coming and felt like one believed me. I went from. 3 cm to giving birth in 30 min so I understand its not common but I tried to warn them my first labor was only 4 1/2 hours. I'm just happy I didn't have her at home , in car or parking lot . Baby and I are doing great though
WOW!!!! I can't believe that. I'm so glad you were already at the hospital. I've heard from mom's to trust your gut and to advocate for yourself. It's ok to ask questions before just agreeing with what the doctor says.

Did they realize it was your second and your first labor was so fast? Glad it all worked out. Sorry you had to track someone down to catch the baby.
I just had my second on Sat. We debated for a bit on when to go in. I had been having contractions for about 5 hours but they were only sort of consistently 4 min apart. I was not worrying about a minute long since I did not really have that the first time.
We decided to go in around the 5 hour mark. Not exactly sure what time we got there but I think I was checked about 45 min after deciding to go in (I did not need to stop at triage, they sent me right back to my room). I was at about 5-6 cm. I thought I was doing well and had got there in plenty of time. Baby was born about 45 min later. I barely got in one round of antibiotics and my doula barely got my birth pool up in time.
My first labor was 12 hours. Second was 6.5. When i was checked and at 5-6 cm I had no clue he would be here in less than an hour.
Holy schnikes. Thank goodness you made it to the hospital (though the bathroom is probably not what you were expecting...). I'm curious what your doctor had to say about that damn 512 rule afterwards.
This is how my mother had me. No one believed her and the Dr. said she must be timing the contractions wrong when she kept calling and telling him how frequent they were.

I've still no talked to her or seen her. She wasn't on duty or in office in the 26 hours I was in hospital. So who knows?! Hopefully she thinks about this rule a little more in the future! The doctor who was on call said it was the most exciting birth in 4 1/2 years. I should get a discount since he didn't do anything except placenta.
I never had contractions 5 minutes apart. I went from 8-9 minutes apart to 3 minutes apart and calling the cab. I had DD within 1/2 hour of arriving at the hospital (and ten minutes of that included riding the elevator up to L & D- why in the fark is there not an express elevator for this purpose???).
I am inclined to go in earlier this time. At the very least, the hospital is next to Central Park and I figure I can walk around the park if I'm not ready yet.
OMG jamer!!!! I can't believe you had your baby already!! Did you have baby at the hospital I think you did? WOW at no one being there. Yikes.
Glad you and baby are okay!
Yes, and we actually had a great experience overall at the hospital. Was told to come back to triage and no one was there. But my husband found someone quickly, everything just happened soooo fast! Every one we encountered on staff was nice and good to work with so would go back there in a heartbeat...just earlier next time

Well good! Are you still there, or are you home? I'm so happy for you. I kind of hope my labor is a racecar labor... I really don't want to have any opportunity for much intervention. Good for you for doing everything naturally!
Could you PM me pictures when you have them? I want to see your babe!

We are home already. Only at hospital for 26 hours. I really wanted an epidural but I guess it wasn't meant to be. Now I can say I did one birth naturally. Ill try to figure out how to PM pics and will send over soon as I do.
