XP from ML: Desperate for hair ideas (LARGE PIP!)

Sorry in advance for the giant PIP. I can't figure out how to shrink :S


I have an appointment this Saturday at 12:30 for a haircut/color. I usually go with reds but not sure what shade to go with. I am also sick of my hairstyle. It has been almost the same for the past 10-12 years. My "stylist," though, can't seem to CREATE ideas, she needs a picture to go by. Here is a pic of me at the beach with no product in my hair so you can get an idea of the type of curls I have. There is also a blurry pic of me with product and how it generally looks. I prefer not to straighten it, and my face is too round for short hair, I think. I realize this doesn't leave many options. The humidity is way too high to let it air dry without product.

Any suggestions appreciated.

You have great natural curl! I think a side bang would look really good on you. Something like this in a nice deep but bright red!

You don't think my face is too round? I feel like my face is too round/full for short looks, thats part of the reason I shy away from them.

the side bang helps detract from roundness, but I don't think your face is too round. Charlize Theron also has a round face.

and fwiw, I prefer your hair curls completely natural a la the beach picture, as opposed to with product. the curls seem to have more life to them. what products do you use?

I don't think so but I say the same thing about myself which is why I've never cut mine I think you can do the same cut and keep the length if your uncomfortable with short. Bring it up a smidge, add layers and do some side 'bangs'. I think layers are key with curly hair.

I haven't found a product that I love yet. I have tried numerous gels, mousses, and serums. It just seems that my hair doesn't want to do that natually unless I am at the beach; it kind of frizzes otherwise unless i sleep on it wet. It still isn't totally that way, though, and I need to "tame" the back of it when I wake up someone on ML suggested a sea salt spray, but I am not sure if that will work or not.

I am open for most suggestions.

Here is my hair right now. No products and when it was wet I put it in a "fish/jaw clip" when I got out of the shower. I've been playing with it since I took the clip out.

my hair is naturally wavy (2B/2C) and it's a pretty new thing since my hormones changed after stopping BC 1.5 years ago. I'm still getting the hang of my own curls, which are frizzy and dry, but my hair is very fine so serums and the like only weigh my hair down. my stylist suggested a curl cream (this product specifically: m.redken.com/products/styling/curl/curl-wise-14 ), and I noticed a difference immediately. the first few days I started using this product, I've gotten a lot of compliments on my hair at work and a lot of "did you do something different?" just a suggestion.

your natural hair is pretty! i am no hair expert at all, but i do think that putting in some layers, like pp suggested, would be nice. it would also help to lighten the curls and also give more volume up on top of your head.

Google Alexa Chung or Finola Hughes for a style. Alexa has bangs with short wavy layers and Finola is similar without. I'd give some links, but I'm still on a phone.

I would do a lot of layers to lighten up the curls and then side bangs. I'm going to my hairdresser this weekend too and thinking about the side bangs. As for product, since your hair did so well with no product at the beach, try a mouse. My curly hair usually looks better with a mousse. I used the Herbal Essence one for years. Now I do the curly girl method and use the DevaCurl Volumizing foam.
My dream is to go red one day, this color might work for you:

If you're scared of this length do something in between this and your beach picture.
