My H is going to Vegas at the end of July for work and I'm going to tag along. Looking for any recs on restaurants/shows/must sees on/near the strip. We are staying at the Cosmopolitan. We saw KA a few years ago, so I'm thinking O unless there are any other great new shows you'd recommend?
As for food, I'd like to keep meals under the $50-75/person range (not including alcohol) but we are totally flexible on type/cuisine. Breakfast/Brunch/Dinner will be the biggies as H will be working during the day.
Also, any recs for things for me to do by myself during the day? I'm thinking the pool will occupy a lot of that time but if there is anything I should check out in walking distance from the Cosmo, let me know.
I enjoyed the Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage. Sometimes the trainers will interact with the dolphins, but there are no set show schedules or anything. I've also taken the bus to the outlet mall to look for deals. I think I've done everything there is to do on the strip, by myself, without a car.
The Dolphin Habitat and Mandalay Bay Shark Reef are very small compared to any local zoo, so if you go, plan to really spend time observing the animals. You could even bring a book and wait for the big cats to wake up.

If you are a Michael Jackson fan, I highly recommend ONE at Mandalay Bay. Absolutely great show.
Ditto The P.U.B. recommendation - also they have a twice daily happy hour at the bar. Julian Serrano at Aria is also good - again they have a happy hour with really good deals.
I've seen Le Reve which was good. I also had a really good time at Absinthe, but as PP mentioned it's super raunchy. There are SO many options for eating. That said, if you want to splurge one night then check out Sinatra at the Wynn/Encore (I forget which building it's in). It's really good. Burgr (Planet Hollywood) and Pub and Grill (Caesar's) are both Gordon Ramsay places and I enjoyed those.
I've been out there a few times for work recently and always stay in the City Center area. I really enjoyed my dinner at Julian Serrano in Aria it's really good Spanish food. Jose Andreas has an outpost in Cosmpolitan but I hear service can be hit or miss.
The Jean Philippe patisserie is also really fantastic for a quick bite. There are a few around. I love macaroons so I always grab a few.
If you're looking for a good lunch, Social House in Crystals Mall has a great Bento box for twenty bucks.
Also if you need a quick burger and to see what it's all about In-and-out Burger is pretty tasty for a fast food chain.
I had a horrible sad experience at Gordan Ramsay BurGR. it was the worst food I have ever eaten in my life. It was dry, over cooked and as a huge chef fan I left feeling really disappointed. On another visit I went to the Pub at Caesar's and it was good.
I saw the Jabbawockeez at Luxor and Love while out there. The Jabbawockeez was so much fun and really entertaining. Love was just jaw dropping and gorgeous and even if you're not a Beatles fan its fun.
Oh yes, a drink at the Chandelier Bar is a must. Hyde at the Bellagio is also really good for drinks - you can see the fountain show up close and personal. Also I make it a priority to go to MIX Lounge at Mandalay Bay for drinks to see the strip lit up at night.
I love Jaleo in Cosmo. Get the veggie paella, it's amazing. Secret pizza at Cosmo is supposed to be good, I've never been but DH likes it.
For a fancy meal we like Mastro's Ocean Club next door at City Center.
I agree with killercupcake that you should try to get downtown if you can. The bars on Fremont Street (on the other side of LV Blvd from the Fremont Street Experience) are all worth checking out. We also love to do brunch down there. Park has an amazing brunch and Dupars at Golden Gate has the best pancakes I've ever had and they are dirt cheap.
Also agree with Brooklyn Bowl. The food is just ok but the atmosphere is awesome. If there's a concert there when you are here you should try to check it out.
For shows I agree with Absinthe and the Cirque shows. I prefer Mystere to O and Love, but I liked all of them.
Cosmo's buffet is fun. The food as all good and the presentation was adorable. Holsteins is good. Agreed with the recommendation for Jean Phillipe. Love the pastries.
When I'm there on the strip alone, I shop and people watch. I like getting bath bombs from Basin and Basin White to take home.
