I am all for ERF and absolutely understand the benefits. But someone posted to Car Seats for the Littles' FB page asking for confirmation that her forward-facing Diono install was correct. Of course she was asked child's stats; kid is 33 months, and she's flipping to FF because she gets hot and carsick, and vomits on trips. In my mind, solid reason to flip to FF when the kid's nearly three. But instead of accepting that, people were suggesting she dose her DD with Dramamine before car rides, and someone else suggested she switch the seat position to outboard rear-facing and open the window on that side. Uh, maybe I'm crazy but I think a FF center-installed three-year-old is safer than she would be if she were placed near an open window. No?
Sometimes I really wonder about other people's thought processes.
Wow. A 3 year old kid puking in the car is reason enough put the seat FF and that's so mean of them. Drugging your kid every time you go in the car?? Huge WTF!!
they should have asked here instead. Obviously we never go crazy on straightforward questions
Right?
But seriously, I just don't see how people who are so concerned with safety would prefer a kid have an open window beside her. This is the same group that says the only acceptable drinking option in the car is a collapsible water bottle.
(I think overall they help people. But sometimes the mark is missed.) (Also, I am not saying that an open car window is inherently dangerous, but when the choices are open window/RF three-year-old or closed window/FF three-year-old, um, I'm choosing the latter.)
I need to leave the group again. I've never actually posted in there, but I joined once when initially researching car seats, left because it did drive me nuts and I didn't need them, then rejoined last week to find info on Foonf installs.
Good Lord. Dramamine? Because drugs are better than turning around a 3 year old?
CSFTL, CD pages and the Tula pages are great entertainment. I didn't see that post. I'm off to look for whatever other craziness they may be talking about.
You're in luck; it just got bumped back to the top of the page so it should be easy to find. The OP took it all in stride and did end up flipping back to RF, and to be fair, I don't think the people suggesting drugs and open windows were admins, but the admins didn't say anything to defend the FF choice over those suggestions.
I am going to sneak in a possible flameful here. Because RF makes it tight in the front seat if it's just the three of us (seat is installed on the passenger side), one of us sits in the backseat with J. We like talking to her back there, lol!
Why would this be flameful? I sit in the back often to hang out with my (ERF-ing) 2 year old. Unless we're both weird? ;-)

This is reasonable, and actually a suggestion I've seen on CSFTL that I do agree with.
I'm a CPST and don't look through CSFTL anymore bc some of the people can be very overbearing. But there are going to be very evangelical people out there with all parenting topics, you just got to smile and nod, smile and nod...

Eh, not weird to me. We do this as well - it's just easier to be able to hand him stuff and interact with him, especially since he's still RFing.

We do this too pretty often, especially on longer trips. It is just easier to hand him a new toy or entertain him. Not flameful. I'd rather that than listen to him whine!

This discussion of FB crunchy-crazy parents is short on mentions of baby wearing groups
I hope CSFTL has a regular troll who points our the safest thing you can do is just drive less.
The group is militantly regulated by admins, so trolling is literally impossible; any comments that aren't with the party line are deleted, and people who dare to get anywhere close to trolling are banned. The potential for drama is high, but anything "good" is gone very quickly.

CSFTL has it's uses and I do really like watching it because sometimes I learn new things or have a question. That said, I think that the fact that they have what..40,000+ members... is why things can turn into a Koolaid kegger at times. I agree that Dramamine for every car ride belongs on the Koolaid bus, but I've never understood turning a kid forward facing for motion sickness. I can't tell you how many times I barfed in the car while sitting forward facing in the center of the back seat as a kid. As an adult I still sometimes get sick and the only cure for me is if I'm the driver.
I'm another one who sits in the back with my kid (sometimes DH if I'm driving) because it keeps him from screaming and screaming is, you know, dangerously distracting to the driver. I welcome anybody we see on the road to judge us for it. If I have two kids later on and they're in the back seat killing each other I will happily sit between them to facilitate a lower overall volume in the car.
Ugh. I got flamed recently on that group as well and I wish that these people would try to be a little more open minded and postive towards those who don't practice exactly what they think is correct
