DH and I want to take a trip by ourselves for 6 nights. It's our first big trip alone since our honeymoon 11 years ago, a present to ourselves for our 40th and 45th birthdays.
We were planning to go to the Eldorado royale this fall.
Well DH I'd looking to change jobs and we've moved the trip up to mid-August. August in Mexico sounds worse than Houston on August for heat and humidity.
So would you still go? Go somewhere else? Our budget is 3k and we want something easy (which is why we were going to an AI).
We are headed to Mexico at the end of August. We plan to be in the pool the whole time or in the ocean. I would stick to the pacific side (Cabo San Lucas or Puerta Vallarta) though due to hurricane season.
We used to go to Mexico every year in August. We prefer the end of August because most kids are back in school, which made for cheaper tickets and less crowds (even though we stayed at adults only resorts).
Just remember it's hurricane season. I've had plans impacted by hurricanes twice now (once last week) and it's a pain in the butt, even with insurance.
We've gone in August several times. The heat and humidity are never a problem when you're on the beach. It did get a bit hot when we did an excursion to Chichen Itza once, but that is in the middle of the jungle. Like others have posted, just make sure to get trip insurance since it is hurricane season.
I am currently looking at booking a trip to (most likely) Mexico next month too. I've been to Puerto Vallarta and loved it. This time I wanted to do Cancun or Playa del Carmen but we will see. I love heat so I'm actually happy if it's sweltering. The hurricane season isn't really worrisome to me, as long as we book the insurance.
Or other options we are considering include Punta Cana (same weather issues) or Florida. At least with Florida, we're still on the mainland if a hurricane would pop up.
If you wanted to avoid hurricanes, check out Aruba, Bonaire, or Curacao. They are generally too far south to worry about impact. They will be hotter though and less AI options.
Thanks ladies! We booked it last night. Someone had just put some doubts in my head, so I needed some confirmation that we aren't crazy. We get hurricanes at home, so it's not a major concern for us, but we did buy travel insurance.
We're going to Mexico in August, in fact, I just booked our flights. We're looking at one of the smaller resorts in cancun or somewhere in Tulum or one of the smaller beaches.

Which travel insurance company did you go with?
TRavel Guard. I didn't do any research on insurance though, it's just what pops up when purchasing through Costco Travel.
All the travel insurance in the world will not help you if you are in Mexico when the hurricane actually hits, as we were. Hurricane shelter for 3 days. They heated beans in pans for every meal, every day. We were so starving we actually walked through flooded streets (I know, stupid) and found a local place that opened in Cancun city (not tourist section). It was frightening on so many levels, I still think about it to this day. (Btw, on that trip we did a split between El Dorado Royale and Maroma Resort). That said.....I would still probably take the chance and go there during July/August again (although my husband has permanently crossed it off our list).

Yikes! Sounds awful!
I didn't mean I wouldn't be scared in a hurricane - they are terrifying (and since I've had to eat cold canned ravioli, I've struck that off the list of hurricane supplies!) But since there's no way to predict it, I can't worry about it. I'm as likely to get hit by a hurricane at home as I am to get hit by one in Mexico.
