I want to do an upholstered bed. Either plain or tufted. I am doing the white Ikea Hemnes dressers. Thinking mirrored nightstands or the white ikea hemnes nightstands.
Should I do a charcoal upholstered bed or white? For duvet, I'm thinking teal or even white. I plan to switch out the bedding occasionally. Walls will be a light gray
This is a tough one. The hemnes is not a true-white--although this is dependent on lighting. In my house, it's almost cream, and I think dr.girlfriend has said something similar. Others, here, though, see it as a true-white.
With that, I would go with charcoal and a white duvet cover. If you decide to go with a white headboard, I'd probably try to stick with something a little warmer, like ivory or cream, to tie it together and use a teal duvet cover.

Thanks. I am having a tough choice over this! If i go with the mirrored nightstands (which i probably will). then the dressers wont be close to the bed, so I think I can get away with a white bed with the Hemnes dressers
I have a charcoal upholstered bed and I find it difficult to decorate around . Beige and cream/white sort of go with everything and every style but the charcoal... not so much. It's also quite dark - which isn't awful but it's a king sized bed so that's a big dark mass.

I'd go with the charcoal headboard (though the charcoal in the picture is darker than what I was thinking, and white bedding.
It is quite dark. Almost black it seems. I would love to find a lighter gray (light a pewter or gray linen tweed type), bc I feel that would be more neutral, but no luck in my price range (<$1000 cal king)

Just my 2 cents.
If you're wall color wasn't light gray, but cream, beige, or tan, I would say white headboard in a minute. That combo of whites/creams/beiges is really serene and perfect for a master bedroom.

Wall color isnt picked yet. Since I am leaning towards the teal duvet, I might do a light aqua color (SW sea salt or something similar).

The Hemnes is more of a cream, but I think it goes okay with white. I'd be more worried about having a white upholstered headboard, though -- like would hair product and stuff rub up against it and stain it? I think a true charcoal would be optimal -- can you buy an upholstered headboard separate from the bed, or just DIY?

My first thought was similar to dr.girlfriend - I would think hair oils (and product) leaning against a white or cream headboard would start making it dingy and I don't know how easy it would be to clean. I would go with dark or at least medium-toned grey.

Thanks. My coworker actually has this bed and I have seen it in person. I think it could work well bc I could do white bedding with it or teal or whatever color I want. Its a good neutral right? :-)
I like this lighter color even better than the darker charcoal. Still not a big fan of the patterned but I still like it on this one. I think this will give you more versatility with the white furniture and both the teal and white bedding. I like! Are you going with grey/charcoal walls or did I misread that on SO?
Tbd on wall color
I think I might go with the light gray non tufted one
My Hemnes reads more white than cream, but it's in a space with a lot of natural light. I have white side tables that are not Ikea across the room from my Hemnes dresser and can't tell a difference in shades. Next to one another, I'm sure Hemnes would look more cream, but on its own it looks white.

What about this one?
I would go with this color over white. I have a white upholstered headboard and I like it enough that I'm not going to replace it any time soon, but it feels slightly old lady-ish to me. I think the grays (darker or lighter feel more modern). I like that the ones you're deciding between have taller headboards, too.
I made a padded headboard when DH and I were first married. I made mine slipcover style so that it could be washed. White will gets dirty, especially if you use it to read in bed or or but your head up against the headboard as your sleep. DH has really oily skin, so it got washed pretty regularly which was a complete PITA. My himmies used to perch up there while waiting for the people who work the can opener to arise- we had the occasional hashmark from their less than tidy butts, too.

We used scotch guard on our light headboard and it's help up well. We have big active dogs, 2 small kids and It still looks the same as when we bought it 2 years ago.
