If you check clearance at places like dsw, or sites like 6pm, ruelala when they do comfort brands, etc. you can get a lot of the spendy comfort brands for cheap.
I have been most satisfied with bare traps, sofft, Clark's, etc.

Also, even within one comfort brand, the way they feel can vary significantly. You might have to try them on in person to find something that will work
I shop Target and Payless. lol. Anything above $20 gives me heartburn, but obvs I am willing to invest a bit more now for good stuff that will stop THE PAIN.
Have you tried the dexflex stuff at Payless? I've had luck with their flats being comfy.
I like aerosoles. I had an outlet near my house and I could usually find something cute for $30-$40 since I'm similar with my shoe spending and wearing habits. I'm not sure if they have an outlet near you but they sell them on zappos too.

Not cheap, but I really like Keens. They have a lot of casual styles - very comfortable and hold up great. The Nike Comfort Thong is a nice flip flop that has good support as well.
For flats, I bought a pair of Dr. Scholl's brand flats when I was pregnant at DSW, and those were amazingly comfortable and cute. I have also had success at Kohl's with shoes. It seems like the brands that layer rubber into the soles are easiest on the feet.
My go-to comfort brands are sofft, born and dansko. Sofft and born have cuter styles than dansko. My danskos are sandals and they don't sell then anymore but I promise they are nowhere near as hideous as their clogs and they are the most comfortable shoes I own.
I know zulily.com has sofft and born on their site sometimes. Regular prices for their shoes are probably $80-120, on zulily, I got three pairs of sofft shoes for $140.
I second this. Very comfortable. All the dexflex shoes are super comfortable and hardly need any breaking in.
I also got those 3 inch heels from Payless - Carmen pumps I think. They are also very comfortable. I wore them through a lot of whole day standing events.
For sandals, I recommend the Lands End ones. I think they are on sale for $25 now.
I LOVE these shoes. I never thought that I could be so happy with a pair of shoes that only cost me $20. I wear these nearly every day and they are so comfortable.
You can't go wrong with the dexflex flats either. I find that they give me just enough support.
Go to the doctor, especially because you're an exercise person. You might need new exercise shoes.
this is really good advice. After pregnancy, my arches developed weird issues and my feet were in SUCH pain even when I wore my running shoes to work. I got fitted at a good running store for new shoes to wear just during workouts and put podiatrist-recommended insoles in my casual shoes and it made a world of difference. Now that I'm not screwing my feet over during the high impact exercise time, I can wear regular cheap shoes without pain.
That said, I have Keen flats and good old fashioned Birks that I adore.
I am the same way - comfort all day, every day. Thank god they have started to come out with cute flats. I felt isolated for a while there in a world of heels and wedges. I would break my ankles.
