I would LOVE to get a pair of Frye's, but alas I don't know if I can swing that without quitting my other shopping in order to do so. But I need to replace my boots this year and would love to know what brands you guys like.
And if you have suggestions for a riding boot or something with a small wedge (2" or less) in cognac or medium brown, in the $100-200 range, LMK!

I hate their return policies, but if you can figure out what size Frye you wear they do appear on 6PM for 50% or more. I got my Veronica's for 60% off that way. They have Cindy Slouch, Mimi, and Rory for under $200 right now there. The Caroline Campus is $240 with a 3 1/4 inch wedge.
I know it's not exactly what you're looking for, but 6PM/Zappos clearances boots very early. I've found current season boots at Nordstrom for $400 on 6PM at 50-60% off in September. If there's something you love that's over budget, stalk it there because it will go down fast. The warehouse store in Louisville is insane with their overages. I just wanted to throw that out there.
I really really like my Corso Como riding boots I got last year. The quality is really nice, and despite my wearing them ALL THE TIME, they are still in great condition (just took them to the cobbler to be cleaned up once and otherwise waterproofed 'em myself).
This year's version is on sale for $169.90 at nordies (reg price is $259.95) and come in black and cognac!!

I have a few pairs of Sam Edelman boots and I really like them. I try to catch them on sale (mostly on Piperlime).
I also just ordered these BP Runway from the Nordstrom sale - can't speak to how they hold up since I don't have them yet, but under $100 for a leather boot reeled me in:
These are probably my most worn "every day" boots right now (well, they were when it was cold). Not really cognac, but they're not really chocolate, IRL either. Hard color to explain - Lucky Fanni:
thanks Kare -- those BP ones look so similar to my old Steve Madden pair that I'm replacing, but sleeker. How long have you had the Lucky ones? Those are cute too.

I've had the Lucky ones for a year. They're definitely more rugged than other boots. The leather is kind of matte if that makes sense so they scratch pretty easy and look a little beat up, which I liked for that style.
I have the SM Intyce that are similar to the BP ones and I like those too. Mine in that are cognac and the BP ones I ordered are black.
The thing I liked about the SM ones was that they could go back and forth between casual and semi-nice (for work). I am hoping the BP are the same. The Lucky I only wear for casual, but they are SO comfortable.
I bought the Frye boots on sale at the Nordstrom sale and they are gorgeous irl so Frye has become my favorite right now. They are about 30 dollars over your budget though.
Piperlime has 20% off of their site today and they have some Frye boots on sale too. I have some Steve Madden boots made in Eastern Europe that are really nice too.
Kare -- I'm replacing the SM Intyce, that's so funny! I've had mine for 3-4 years and they are not worth fixing again this year. Did you get the same size BP as you wear in SM? I think I'm going to order these too while the sale is still on
