DS can do it (26mo) but he spills a good amount. I prefer to have him use a straw cup, which probably hasn't helped the learning curve.
Ditto this. DS is 29 months and *can* drink from an open cup, but he often spills. He'll also set the cup on the table and it's not all the way on there and it falls off. Or he'll swipe it with his hand while playing. So we use straw cups. Ain't nobody got the time or money to clean spilled milk out of carpet 10 times a day.
Right after 2. She's great with it now at 3 as long as it's not too full. She still gets a water bottle type of cup and an actual sippy at bedtime though. Girl is a fiend for her beverages and I don't want that dripped all over.

DD1 is 32 months. She can use one pretty well, but I never give her one because sippies are easy and I'm lazy. I would say by 2.5 she was pretty good at it. ETA: straw sippies are what we use

DS was pretty good at it by 20 months. But I would always keep the cup by me and only hand it to him for drinks because I didn't want to deal with all the accidental spills. Even now, at 2.5, we use straw cups more than half the time out of laziness.
At 18 months they started giving kids 1 oz of juice in a cup at the mommy and me program. There were lots of spills of course but a lot of kids eventually picked it up.
My kids are 4 and about to turn 3 and I'm thinking of just ditching at the straw cups at the end of the year.

DD1 didn't become good at it (very few spills) until closer to 4. DD2 will be 3 in a couple weeks and, while she can drink from a real cup just fine, I can't trust her with one away from the table or unsupervised yet. She'll play with the contents of the cup occasionally if I'm not keeping a close eye on her.
Ds was pretty reliable with one by 20 months. By two we were only using sippies when out of the house. He's always been pretty careful and conscientious of spills though.
