I sync a couple times a week while at work and it takes two seconds. I also don't charge it often and the battery seems to last forever. I have the ultra which also tracks sleep. It is fascinating to know how long it takes to fall asleep, how many times you wake up, etc. Also, tracking food is free for me but maybe that's different with the non-ultra version. It is a good motivator to get more steps in each day.
It can run about 7 days without having to sync/charge. I also have the ultra that tracks sleep so it's interesting to see how "active" I am throughout the night. And ditto macpanda, tracking food is free (and there's an iphone app, don't know about androids because I don't have one). I just plug it into its stand in the morning while checking my email/GBCN/FB.
If what you're wanting is a super-duper pedometer, then I would recommend it. It records your steps, your flights of stairs, approx calories burned, and active vs sedentary levels via a cute and kind of silly little flower image that gets taller with more leaves based on how much you've moved throughout the day.
And you know you like meaningless awards..you get little fitness badges based on set periods of stairs and steps
IK sometimes mine has a problem synching wireless too. I found that if I push the button on the fit bit while walking by the base it helps. Or maybe I"m just impatient on how fast I think it should synch.
