It was. I think the Indian having the baby thing set off people on another board and I believe they posted her work website as a result. I could have that wrong though. The stripper thing I remember because well it was memorable. ETA: Her H didn't know that was going to happen IIRC. He went to the party and was pretty surprised.
I didn't know about the posting of her work website, that's crazy. Well, so is the surrogate story and the stripper thing obviously. Omg, some of the things that went on back in the day...
I'll think, "Man, that was insane." But then remember that just last week, shit blew up and I lost my whole Wednesday to ML so...we're all still kind of batshit.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."

Word. Also ML doesn't have the monopoly on crazy stuff. It could very well happen here as well.

ML does seem to have the market share of the drama.
Back to the OP - the article was pretty good, but seemed slow to lead people to come to the conclusion that the families were snowed over, but I was sort of hoping the author would ask something like, "What if it does come out that it's your kids that are involved and not Danielle?" Instead it glossed over that direct question with the expectation that if it is their IP addresses that are involved, it must be a hacking scheme. Plus after the comment about the "older kids" and cell phones, but the boys are outside playing I wanted him to ask if that family was really that sexist to think the girls need cellphones/internet socialize, but the boys just play outside to socialize.
You are probably right. You would not want to teach them that their actions have consequences.
I'm not sure any amount of evidence would convince them of their daughters' guilt.
This, exactly.
I think the moms are already prepping to have no proof, too.
"While they wait for Instagram to return the subpoenaed IP addresses for Danielle's messages, Christine and Marti don't expect any revelations. "But I do believe it's gonna come back to us," Christine says. Since their phones were hijacked anyway, they figure the only IP addresses on the messages will be their own. If that happens, she says, the police have told her she can simply drop the charges and walk away."

Yeah, I felt like this was the police's way of saying that it is their daughters doing it and when the IP addresses come in and proves it, they will let her drop the charges and not charge them for wasting police time.
Obviously I don't know the backstory but I just remember how much I used to think being a blogger would be great. I like to write and talk about myself and free shit would be nice. But no. Bad plan. People who attract attention to themselves invite drama.

She has some big beef with that MommyJenna. She tweets about it at random, telling her followers to file a report if they've been scammed by MommyJenna. She also has a blog post about it, which I won't link so that she doesn't get the clicks. I can't C&P the text because it's full of screenshots. This woman is a drama whore.
I am glad they used a fake name for "Danielle" in the article. If we're right then that poor girl has already had her name dragged through the mud way too many times as it is.
This still bothers the crap out of me. I don't understand how it got to the point where you see this, "Then they discovered Melody's phone was logged in to one of Danielle's Instagram accounts." and don't immediately ground both kids.

Look, it bothers the crap out of me as well, and I've barely kept up with the entire thing. I'm hopeful that Mashable readers will go to town in the comments.

With the little information I have about this story, I feel like this is one of those situations where if the adults ignored it, the whole thing would have gone away. In this instance, all three of the girls seemed very much little drama queens, "pay attention to me." It really does appear that the more adults and classmates paid attention, the more things escalated.
In the interest of being a good person, I will apologize for my earlier statements now that a couple of folks have noted that Sunflower is dealing with depression issues. I am sorry if what I wrote may have caused any harm.
Me too. I am sorry about my don't let the door hit you on the ass comment but I do indeed believe she needs to find her happy place and if professional help is needed I hope she is able to receive it.

And, you know, take away their phones and computers.
But, but, but...this is how kids socialize these days!!! I seriously rolled my eyes at that part.
Ok, so I had to post and run last night. My thoughts:
Marti had a hell of a lot of viruses on her devices. It also sounds like she had an open network. You can't freak out and blame someone else when you've been running an open network and downloading who knows what with a shitty anti-virus program. Including the ones on your phone. They were probably there before the whole things started.
When I talked to the reporter, he indicated that "Danielle's" stepfather had said this bullying had gone on for a year. I would bet that it was back and forth between Danielle and the two girls (mutual, because there's no way this could have happened with just one side). When Danielle took it to the school (possibly she had gotten tired of the whole thing), that's when the other 2 took it to def con 4. Again, when Danielle took it to the school, the other 2 mothers just blew it off. Surely their preciouses couldn't be involved, Danielle was lying. Yet when something (real or made up) happens to THEIR kids, full alarm freak out lets call all the bullying organizations!!!!!!!
And, I'm done.
Basically it's interesting to me from the tech side is that people are saying that "it could be done" yet have no one has stepped up with definitive proof on how it happened.
And yes, for personal reasons, I'm pissed off at this, "The main thing we get is, ‘Oh, it's not a big deal. I'm dealing with a rape case,'" Julia's father Ray Young says." ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! Your problems are not that big, dude. Step back and evaluate yourself. You have 2 kids that are happily living a life of privilege with fucking cell phones that you keep buying them even after the COPS question why you're giving them to them. Your little case is not the equivalent of rape.
It's total bullshit that no one would've heard about if not for Sunflower bringing it here. The bullshit story was being reposted by mommy bloggers everywhere. I saw it first when it popped up on my Facebook.
I also saw it on GOMI, but it didn't generate much interest there. The moms or one if their supporters took it to Reddit, and there were two separate news stories on it.
I also saw the Reddit thread. It's not like it was a well-kept thuper-thecret until it was brought here.

Yes. I mean Dylanite, FFS. We had Dylanite. Doesn't get more crazy than that.

I also have a feeling that they find "tech" people that tell them what they want to hear, and aren't talking to serious cybercrime professionals. They are probably talking to a Best Buy salesman. Ask enough of them, and one of them probably will tell you random stuff is possible. .

From the article, one of the people was from the geek squad at Best Buy. LOL! Oh, and a "friend" that works at Apple, and Time Warner cable. Y'know, the same Time Warner cable that one of them had a little tinfoil hat rant about who said it was an inside job from there.

When I read the article last night, the one and only comment (at the time) was someone saying "iPhones are so easily hacked, google it, it's easy"
No indication as to how this commenter knew it was easy, just google it.

I actually laughed out loud when I saw the Time Warner friend reference. And yeah, if they are getting their tech advice from the guy who makes $12/hour installing Norton Anti-Virus software on people's computers, it's no wonder why their heads remain firmly up their asses.

If she were my child the mommy blogger would be in court already on a defation claim for accusing her by name in the first place.

I bet there are more legal workings from the accused sides going on here than we know about -- because I assume they are smart enough not to blast a legal matter all over the internet.
I just assumed that if she'd been served ah would have posted about it on he blog in a, "can you believe this?!" Blaze of glory.
Here's hoping truth triumphs in all aspects of this situation... including Sunflower. Learning the truth about yourself and the power you can have over not just yourself but things and people around you is truly (no pun intended) freeing. I hope she can find a better place in the future and be happy wherever she is.
