So, I was in an accident last Thursday and we found out today that my Jetta is totaled. It was paid off, and we were not expecting to have to get a new car, do I think we're going to buy used.which isn't a big deal to me, I've never had a brand new car.
There's a Prius that I'm looking at, 48000 miles on it, 2013. Anyone drive one? Is it cramped with car seats in it?
I drive a lot for work, so the mpg seems awesome.
Just brainstorming still and thought I'd ask here. probably won't test drive anything until this weekend.
My parents have one and it has a lot more space than I expected. They have had two grandkids car seats in it, the two of them (both over six feet tall), and the kids stuff with no problem.
I have a 2011 and I love it. It's not as luxurious as my past cars and, to be honest, I like riding in H's car better just because I feel like it's plusher, if that makes sense (he has an Outback), but you can't beat the mpg. It's definitely more spacious than you'd think once you're inside. I only have the one infant seat in there, but it works just fine.
It doesn't have the fastest pickup (which annoys H), but seriously, I save so much on gas that I don't even care.

We have a Jetta sportswagen and a Prius V. Love the Prius. It's about the same size. Great gas mileage. No issue with A rear facing in a chicco keyfit 30. Haven't tried a convertible yet. Only thing I miss is power. It's a pretty wimpy car. Lol.
We have a 2014 Prius and LOVE it. We just have the classic hatchback one, and the trunk is pretty roomy. We can fit luggage for a weekend away in there and put our two large dogs in the back seat with DS. we only have one carseat now but it fits pretty well.
In the summer we are averaging 55 MPG which is awesome.
I have a 2007 Prius which I bought brand new at that time. I have since put 130,000 miles on it and it still runs great. Fits 5 adults comfortably. DS had a KeyFit then a Britax Marathon, both fit fine. 42 mpg, huge "trunk" (area behind the hatchback), spacious. Biggest drawback is it handles like a dishwasher. You won't be passing any trucks on the interstate! But it's a great family car.
ETA: it is TERRIBLE in the snow. Really really bad. Might as well be a $32,000 sled.

Ugh. This is a concern. We get snow here, and I'm a home health nurse. We never close for weather. And some of our patients live in the middle of nowhere.

I live in MN and the winters are pretty brutal here. I get new tires every other year and it's fine. The new tires make all the difference though.
We own a 2010 Prius that is about to hit 100,000 miles. We haven't had problems with it, the gas mileage is great, and has gotten me through Michigan winters. Does it drive as good as a big AWD in the winter?, no...but I drive 50 miles each way to work and *knocks on wood* I really haven't had any problems.
Also, I hit a deer a couple of months ago in the country and the guy who witnessed it said he has never seen a deer going flying the way it did after I hit him. I know it sounds silly but I was proud of the Prius since were I'm from everyone drives big pick-up trucks and wouldn't expect that from a Prius...plus I was ok after the accident.
Also, it fits a lot with the hatchback. I've driven nieces in car seats about and it never felt cramped.
I have a 2006 Prius with about 120k that I bought used in 2010 with 75k . The only thing I've had to do to is is change the oil. Very reliable, runs great, very roomy. My H is 6'2" and finds it's slightly uncomfortable for him to drive for more than about an hour because the seat doesn't quite go back far enough.
I have a 2011. We really love it for everyday use. It fits our nextfit really well (we are both tall and can have the seats back pretty far). Unfortunately, we do find it a little tight for things roadtrips and hiking treks, when we have our 50 lb dog in the hatch and all our gear. We are a one car family and are pretty active/bring the dog along a lot so this comes up often. We are considering selling it and getting a forester or an outback or something because of this.
48k seems high for two years, but whatever. Yes, it is tight with two car seats. I would take any RF seats and set them in the back to see if it effects where you can position the front seats. I thought our convertible seat forced the driver's seat forward a bit. But after sitting in it for a while it was nbd.

I've gotten stuck a few times. Ice in my parking space, couldn't get out. Had to chip the ice and put down cat litter. Slid down a gentle hill in falling snow, had to stay at a hotel nearby overnight until the storm blew over. I guess pig's eye has better tires?
My 2012 is not like this at all. Plenty of pep when needed.
Well la de da with you guys and your good Prii DH calls my Prius "the little car that thinks it can, but probably can't." Every car has it's pluses and minuses, mine definitely has no pep.
I'm just saying that the older model probably has been improved. Mine also has a "power" button
I like the power button. My H drives will only drive with it in power mode (which doesn't make as big a difference on the gas mileage as one would think). It makes it a bit more zippy, though I still have had moments where I wished it had a bit more umph when passing someone on our way up a mountain.

Where do you have the keyfit installed on your Prius? Do you have it in the center?

No. There's some weird bump in the backseat that means you can't get it tight using the seatbelt method. We had to use LATCH on the side. I'm not sure if it's just the Prius V or if it's all of them.
