So my mom's outdoor cat had kittens. She had given away all the others and was going to take this one to the shelter, so we decided to take him as an early birthday present for Kenzie. We figure she is getting old enough to start learning how to care for a pet.
He is the sweetest little thing. We made sure to check him for fleas. ticks, mites, etc...He was all clean. We brought him home and bathed him in Dawn and just let him explore. He has taken to the litter box right away, and has taken to being indoor like a champ.
My question is, do you think he is going to be long haired? He is extremely fuzzy, and his tail seems to have really long hair. If he's going to be long haired I want to invest in some good grooming tools and probably a new vacuum because I can't stand hair all over the sofas.
My guess is short hair (which can get pretty long, actually), but it's seriously been almost 30 years since I last adopted a kitten. All of my adult adoptees have been short-hairs, and they shed like a mofo, so I'd invest in those grooming tools anyway.

So cute! My guess is no on long hair. My kitten was fluffier than him at that age and I'm still not quite convinced he's a long hair (4 months old now). Kittens are usually pretty fuzzy when they're very small.
Most kittens have a bit of fluff to them. Also, most cats shed, even shorthaired ones, so you'll want a brush anyway. I had a shorthaired calico that used to blow her coat out like a dog. It was so much fur everywhere.

Thanks! He is a total sweetie. I'm glad it's looking like he will be a DSH. We are still trying to think of a proper name. For now we are just calling him "boo boo".
Tell your mom to her outdoor cat (god help me) spayed, for fuck's sake.
Trust me....It goes in one ear and out the other. This is a 3rd generation cat. She WANTS them to keep breeding. It's ridiculous. Her neighbors have called animal control more times than I can count. She just pays the fines. She is legit a crazy cat lady.
Adorable! He doesn't look like a long hair to me. We have a medium hair and it ways very clearly much longer then that when we adopted him at about the same age.
Our cat has medium length hair and sheds allllllll over the place. all the time. I highly recommend the furminator, too! It's expensive, but works SO well.

Aw. Isn't cute how her cat keeps having these kittens--and she can't always find them homes...so she has to take them to the overcrowded shelter, where they get killed?

How adorbs. Your mom is an idiot.
Was this supposed to hurt my feelings? LOL. I agree with you wholeheartedly. My mother is a whackadoo when it comes to this.
I'll play along and answer your question. It's definitely a short hair. When they're little their hair seems very fluffy but by the age they are you can tell what it is and that's definitely a short hair.
