I went into labor on my own in the evening at 40w3d with DD, and she was born early the next morning. My OB won't let me go past 41w.
I'm 39w today, and my dr is on vacation next week, so she's sure I'll go on time, but if not, she said I can be induced on the 30th, which is her on call day in the hospital, and 40w6d. The first time, I was very anti-induction. This time, I feel like, "please get the bebe out before he weighs 15lbs."
The bolded is EXACTLY how I feel. Thank you for understanding me!
I know it sounds crazy but once I hit 41 weeks I felt calmer because I knew I'd be done in less than a week, lol. You can get anxious right before and right after your EDD if you pass it, but then once you start nearing 41 weeks its sorta nice cause you know the baby is coming one way or another.
I know there are a lot of anecdotes, but generally overdue babies respond better to inductions. And since they tend to weigh more, pedis are typically less concerned with weight issues in the early weeks.
Spontaneous labor at 41w. In July. In the Sourh. While I worked and my H was at home on his prearranged paternity leave. I may or may not have cried in a hospital Sbux after my OB appt at 40w6d when they scheduled my induction for 41w5d after a holiday weekend and I thought my H wouldn't be off for her arrival.

40 weeks 6 days and counting, but the baby had been measuring on the small side of normal. I actually think my real "due date" isn't until I would be 41 weeks.
I charted for years before I was pregnant with Nods and always had longer cycles. With her I knew when I ovulated and she should have been born a week later.
I have an appointment with my midwife tomorrow, so we will see what they say then. In think they b will probably let me go another week if I want.
I'm not uncomfortable, just tired of the anticipation.
I went 11 days late. Had an induction scheduled that morning, didn't have any beds open, so they were going to call me when they were ready. In the meantime, I headed out and got acupuncture to induce labor - and it worked. By the time the hospital called, I was having regular, close contractions. They still broke my water, but I didn't need pitocin.

This is mostly me (though I'm a tad uncomfortable). Mostly the anticipation is hard - especially since I have to consider arrangements for DS and that's a bit hard because it relies on family coming in from out of town with friends covering the filler time. The race is on MadamePresident!
I was induced with both. With ODS, I was induced at 41 weeks, and he was born at 41 weeks, 1 day. With YDS, I was induced at 40 weeks, 5 days. I induced the earliest they would let me both times after going overdue. I had no desire to try for 42 weeks. I think if I go for a third, I will be induced again. I just don't go into labor on my own. I had zero contractions until induction with ODS and none but Braxton Hicks with YDS.
Not there yet (went at 38w, 3d with DD and am 38w, 2d today). BUT, I had an interesting convo with my acupuncturist about this yesterday. She is going to ramp up the treatments starting next week if I haven't gone into labor yet since my doctor doesn't want me to go too much past 40w (AMA). She also suggested I go for an intense neck/shoulder massage yesterday. There are, apparently, some trigger points in your shoulders that can help with labor. She also says that if you are particularly tense in your upper back, which I am, this can block labor. I didn't go anywhere fancy for the massage after I left the acupuncturist, just to a nail salon that charges $1 per minute of massage.
Just figured I would share with you. I can't remember if you are still in NYC, but if so, I'd be happy to PM you my acupuncturist's contact info. She's around Union Square.
I took a labor cocktail to get things going. My mom arrived the day before (we live overseas) and I desperately needed/wanted the baby to arrive while she was here. I used verbena and castor oil in a shake. It works for me.
I used it with my first when I had PROM and was able to avoid a medical induction.
Already have supplies ready should I need it again with this baby.
ETA: Jem I know how you feel. My first was early and with my second I felt like from 36w on I could go into labor at any time. It was so frustrating.

Ooh, I'm going to try the massage. I am always very tense in my upper back. And I would love your acupuncturist's info. I've been told the hospital is also booked up for the day my dr will be in next week, so I'm up for trying anything that will get this started. Thanks!
DS1: 41w3d, I was induced DS2: 42w3d, I was induced again but it took 2 attempts (the 1st induction only started minor contractions then stopped, stubborn baby).
