Yesterday was my first quilt guild meeting ever. I made an impression, slicing through the side of my finger with my rotary cutter when using a 2.5" ruler. Anyways, after checking my tetanus shot was 5 years ago and stopping the bleeding I went to the store it was at and got one of these:
I played around with it some and it holds great. There is a larger one as well, but will wait for a good coupon. I don't want to cut myself ever again. I'll probably have a permanent dent to remind me to be careful too.

Hmm, thinking about this. I cut my fingers ALL the time and I use my rotary cutters practically in my sleep. The hardest cuts to heal are cuts with my pinking shear blade. Ouch.
I've been there and done that. I have a cut resistant glove that I use (when I remember). It is this one-http://www.equilter.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/st_prod.html?p_prodid=72708&sid=31U9Hz2ig52113v-04111098713.f7.
I have also made an effort to match the size of the blade to the width of the ruler. I have all sizes of blades and rulers, so the big rotary cutter only gets used with my wide rulers, and the small rulers send me searching for the small rotary cutters.
It helps, but it seems like I can manage to injure myself on pretty much any sewing/cutting tool. Like my business partner says, we include our DNA on every project, free of charge. ;p

LOL. My mom would say that's how you know you're serious about your craft!
