I've been avoiding this board a little because my husband asked me to chill on the H&G stuff for a bit in an effort to take his stress level down. It's been months since Ive seriously worked on the house (I've five a little here and there) and I'm jonesing for my power tools. Well, he's away for work so I finally get a weekend to do house stuff in peace!! My backlog is huge though so I feel like I need to have a crash weekend or something nuts like that to power through my projects.
Here are my ambitious goals this weekend : Clear out and organize guest room closet Organize Jackson's closet Toy purge Order foam for window seat project in play room Cut and finish countertops for cabinets on either side of window seat Cut and install plinth to finish off the window seat cabinetry Order pillows for the window seat Hang drapes on sliding doors in play room
Next Saturday he's still away, so I'd like to: Buy 16,092 more paint samples and continue to be undecided on wall color Buy area rug for play room
Then next Sunday we have a family portrait session scheduled to do photos for the bamboo plywood panels I made for the wall in my family room.
If I can do all of that in the next two weekends and eventually decide on a paint color, paint, mount the tv to the wall and do something with the brick fireplace then I'll be done with the family room renovation/decorating.
At that point I'll be a master bedroom, master bath, guest room and kitchen away from am what us consider a 'done' house LMAO - {insert big tired sigh here}
I hear though. H and I are just gearing up to get off our HG break too. (Sunroom here we come! Finally!).
Start with the big stuff that would drive him most nuts at home. H hates when I want to actually fix/build/remodel stuff lately, but I could organize a closet or buy area rugs to my heart's content and he couldn't careless because it's not noisy messy or have to involve him.
I got tired reading your list. I can't believe how much you accomplish in a short amount of time.
You know, you don't need to be doing H&G to be here. You have mad diy skills and ideas that could be of help to others.
I know. But you guys inspire me and i have a problem with self control/impulse control. It's really taken a lot of personal restraint to honor his wish to take a break from the house and reading this board regularly convinces me that it's a totally great idea to go ahead and demo my kitchen on a Friday night.

Josh hates this shit. Seriously it makes him nuts if I organize closets - he get's all huffy and eye-rollish. And not having him here means I have a pass in terms of not getting his opinion on stuff like rugs. His opinions *always* get in the way of my brilliant design vision - and this way, if he hates it I can just say - oh you weren't here to ask, sorry! Muhahahahaha
So are you planning on crating your children or something I'm glad to know why you've been scarce around here! You are missed, though I had to do the exact same thing, so I totally get it.
You know they are getting big enough to entertain themselves - especially if I'm working in the garage and living room, going in and out. All the doors will be open and they'll be tickled pink to play with all the new toys J got for his birthday this week (dude, I have a 7 year old - how the F did that happen?!) and not be helicoptered by me. We do have a play date planned at the pool on Sunday. So that might dig into my time finishing the countertops. Might have to get up early Sunday.

LOL. I get it. H has opinions on the damndest stuff too. Lately it's handsoap and kitchen towels. Really, since when do he care about soap? And he picks up a dishrag like once a week.
So given last weekend got sidetracked with blAck widows and our play date turned into an all day affair Sunday, I'm not as far as I had hoped. I still have the following remaining on my list:
Cut and install plinth on one run of cabinets (should be easy, right?) Hang curtains Toy purge Clean guest room closet
I think I need some encouragement to power through it by Saturday night.
I might be able to hang curtains and purge toys tonight after the kids go to bed... But I definitely need to dig deep for that lol

Go for it! While you're at it, can you come clean out our second guest room in the basement and move it all into our storage room, then paint our main floor (we have the paint) and the ceiling of our bedroom, and install the tile/tub/floor for the main bathroom and tear out the uppers in the kitchen and paint the lower cabinets, and refinish our hardwoods on the whole main floor?
Thanks, that will save me about 2 years time and you sound way more ambitious than me.

Just a thought - will your kids self-purge their toys, especially with an incentive? For example, when I was a kid, my mom decided to pay me a quarter for every toy (sets = 1) I was willing to donate to charity. I made $15 that day, which was a HUGE deal for a 5-year-old (who CLEARLY had too many toys). I was ruthless.
