I'm switching jobs and I know it's going to be hard on my kids. They already complain about how much time they spend in before/after care. Currently: Wake at 7:00, at before care 7:45. school is 9-3:15, after care till 5:00. Bedtime is 8:30
I have a longer commute with my new job. So the schedule will be: Wake at 6:15, at before care 7:00, school 9-3:15, after care till 5:00. So everything moves up by 45 minutes. I don't see how it's possible to move upthe kids bedtimes to 7:45 though. 2 days/week they have activities till 8. Plus that gives us much less time for homework & family time in the evening. Home at 5:20, supper at 6:00, then bath, chores, homework, bedtime routine, etc will be crammed into an hour and fifteen minutes. Any tips or advice if your kids are in care for 10+ hours/day?

We get home around 5 and bedtime is 8 during the school year. DS does homework at his after school program and finishes while H (usually) cooks dinner. We eat around by 6, then they play until 7:30 or so before showers, reading, etc.
Is there any chance you can get a nanny for before school and just send them to aftercare? They could sleep in a little and the nanny could get them fed and ready for school. This is my plan when (possibly if) anyone decides to hire me after a 5 year hiatus.
I would also look into someone to cover the morning and do drop off. I know for years my grandma did this for a family where both parents had to leave early in the morning. If you can't do that I would move their bedtime up if they are getting up earlier. I don't know how old they are but my 6 year old goes to bed a 7:30 during the school year since she needs to get up at 6:45. We don't get home until after 5 most days and it doesn't seem like she has much time but I can't handle a crabby kid in the morning.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

How old are your kids?
My 9 yo leaves for school at 7:45 and gets home at 5:00. Bedtime was always 7:30 until the past year when it has moved closer to 8:00. I find here that most of the activities are earlier so it hasn't been an issue for us.
I agree with having someone come in to the house if you can.
