I’m doing daycare prep and have a broken fridge. We have a mini fridge in the basement, and tomorrow morning may be a sh*tshow, so I’d like to do E’s bottles tonight. I have no fresh milk; due to the fridge fiasco, I froze everything I pumped Friday - today.
Is it okay to thaw some frozen milk using warm water so I can put it in the bottles and stick those in the mini fridge tonight? It would save me so much time tomorrow morning.
I know it’s okay to reheat breast milk, but does that include heating for the purposes of thawing it, refrigerating it, and then warming it again for consumption? Or does acceptable reheating only cover rewarming during a feeding?
I’m probably over thinking this, just like everything else, but I’d hate to ruin her milk and add any drama to what will be only day 2 at daycare. Thank you!!!
Yes totally fine. Thawed BM just needs to be used within 24 hours. I did this all the time, especially for Monday bottles. :-)
ETA: To thaw I would run the milk bag under warm water until it was just thawed enough to pour into her bottle. Then I would stick the bottle in the fridge (and bring to daycare the next morning). It definitely didn't warm the milk up, the milk stayed cold the entire time.
We stuck the milk in a pot of cold water and moved it to the bottles without ever warming it. It’s in the mini fridge now. That thing better now crap out on me!
Yes I did that all the time with BM. I always got bottle ready the night before, thawing the frozen stuff in a bowl of warm water. I always put the BM in another Baggie before putting it in water because I had quite a few lansinoh bags leak!
