We hardly ate out at all when we did our kitchen reno. We had an induction burner that we used more than anything else. We also a toaster and a grill thing that cooks stuff in parchment packets (we didn't have a grill at the time or that would have been used the most), and we managed to make it work. A microwave might have been helpful, but we gave our away when the kitchen was demo'd, and we still haven't replaced it.
Our demo starts tomorrow. I'm hoping we can eat at home Monday through Weds, we usually go out on Thursdays and a couple times over the weekend. We still have a fridge, microwave and a small oven, for now. We moved them into our den, but that's getting redone as well so at some point we will have to move it again.
I think we'll be setting up a food prep area in the utility room/workshop with microwave, toaster oven, coffeemaker, etc.- it's got a long workbench, and easy access to both the chest fridge and freezer in the garage and the grill outside, plus the laundry sink for dishes.
My good friend is doing this now and I've been watching closely since we will he doing it in a year or so. They are eating out or at friends houses as much as they can - probably dinner at least 4 times a week. Two kids, and to be fair it's a small condo with a lot of work being done so they just want to be out as much as possible. It's been 2 months and they aren't close to bring done. Yikes.

We set up a kitchen in our basement. Yay for not eating out. ...On the other hand, we're diy'ing and taking our sweet time to finish.
That's a good idea. I didn't even think of that.
It's been awesome in a lot of ways. We aren't under as much of a need to hurry, especially when detours have come up. And since we can DIY in our free time we are creating a kitchen that we wouldn't have otherwise been able to afford. On the other hand...cooking in the basement for way too long.
Overall I would recommend it. Or at least finding a way to set up something with a microwave/toaster oven/crock pot, etc so that you aren't totally dependent on eating out.
My parents went through this and set up nor bathroom as the kitchen. No bathroom ing in there during that time. They also set up a microwave and hot plate. Did quite a bit of ready to heat meals from the grocery sort for less than restaurants.
We did a full kitchen reno (DIY) that took forever and ate out 1x a day for the 3 months it took. It was not fun and after we finished we rarely eat out anymore. GL!

Well, the first two nights I had dinner at IKEA just because we were there for three hours, but that wasn't planned! We'ver set up a little area in the living room with fridge, microwave, and plasticware, and we also cooked a bunch of stuff in advance for fridge/freezer. I agree that not having a sink is the worst part, and also the part that lasts the longest since the countertops/sink will go in a week after the rest of it is done. We have a hard time eating out because DH is both a picky eater and diabetic, and a lot of foods he can eat at home (e.g., pizza, whole wheat pasta) he can't eat out. So, I don't think we'll actually eat out more often than before, except maybe breakfast on the weekend.
