C seems to have quite a bit of ear wax. On any given day I can look in his ear and see yellow-y wax, and a lot seems to come out on a Q-tip after bath time. He doesn't appear to have any problems hearing, and has never had an ear infection (that we know of, anyway). Normal?
C doesn't clap or wave or do "so big!" These were all questions on his "ages and stages" questionnaire for his 1 year appointment next week. Do all the other 1 year olds do these things?

Tons of earwax here too, and told her ears look perfect. The pedi said to just use a washcloth or tissue and wipe what comes out, but never put anything in her ear.
She does wave, clap and do "so big." She's been doing that for a few months. She doesn't walk or pull up yet, but she's juuuuuust started crawling. I get worried about the crawling/walking, but keep telling myself they're all so different and do things at their own pace.
tulipseverafter07 I had been using the Johnson & Johnson Safety Swabs (http://www.amazon.com/Johnson-Safety-Swabs-55/dp/B000GCHO38 ), so I don't think anything was actually going in his ear. I haven't talked to his doctor about it yet, but planned to at his appointment next week. I ran out of the container of these that I had, so I just won't buy more until I speak with her. Good to ear that other babies have lots of wax too! I was a little leery of it because my sister had crazy ear wax problems as a kid, but my mom said she noticed it after she was having trouble hearing. Hopefully it's nothing!
Maybe I just need to try to work with C more on the waving and clapping. He can high-five, and does all sort of other things with his hands. I just, of course, got nervous that he wasn't doing these specific things since they were called out on the questionnaire.

This is AJ too, but he army crawls. And does pull up, now that I think about it. If it makes you feel any better, I had him in a PT study at work last week and all the PTs said the lack of walking and the late crawling were totally fine.
glitzy07, to answer your question AJ does "so big" and waves but only claps when you ask him how he says "yaaaay!". We're currently trying to work on "where's your nose/foot/belly/head?" (I should probably pick one) but getting nowhere, he thinks its a game

DH would walk around with her and wave to the cats, the fans whatever. I think that's what taught her that. She seemed to learn clapping on her own, but maybe she learned it at daycare (goes part time), because we're not clappers, haha. It sounds normal, if he's doing other things with his hands!
DS is 1 year and has a ton of ear wax. Pedi and ENT have noticed and commented in it, just that he has a lot and not that it is a problem. He has had 2 ear infections.
He claps and waves but does not do "so big" (although we never do that with him). He is not walking. He crawls and will stand and push toys for a few steps but that's it. He did learn how to crawl up the stairs this weekend!

Nods didn't do either at a year, but we never really taught her "so big". With clapping she may didn't understand to flatten her hands and would just kind of shake them instead. I wouldn't stress if they can't do everything on the ages and stages. Kids learn at their own rate. Plus there are sometimes developmentally they to go from 0-100 in a flash.

Is my kid normal?
His new way of crawling is one legged. Like he crawls with one knee on the ground and picks up the other leg more like bear walking, or drags it. Is this a precursor to walking or something?

C does this sometimes. Especially outside on grass or pavement, I think because he doesn't like how it feels on his knees. I noticed it about a month ago and he just started walking this week, so not sure if it's a pre-walking thing, but I vote normal!
@littlemoxie I completely agree with you! I hadn't even thought about doing that until I read the questionnaire. The question says, "If you ask your baby to, does he play at least one nursery game even if you don't show him the activity yourself (such as "bye-bye," "Peekaboo," "clap your hands," "So Big")? So far he doesn't do any of those actions himself.

Ask your "normal or not?" questions here too!
Normal on the ear wax. Similar to o and I asked two doctors last time. O waved at one, but doesn't do so big at fifteen months.
I vote normal. DS had his birthday earlier this month and waves, but rarely claps and doesn't do the "so big." We haven't really done the so big thing, and he clapped for a week a few weeks ago and then seemed to stop. I think he's been focused on trying to walk, so he's not really feeling it at this point. At our 12 month check up, our pedi seemed to care most about babbling, pointing and receptive language in terms of communication.
I have one too. DS normally sleeps 10.5 hours at night with 2 naps totally 2.5-3 hours during the day. The last three nights he he has slept 12-13 hours at night and taken a 4 hour nap during the day. He's been a little fussy during the day, but no signs of being sick. Is this just a growth spurt?
