I seriously need to preface this by saying I am not a runner. I have to do a 5k for an upcoming crossfit competition (why they programmed this into the comp was an asshole move...the 5k is at 8am, the first scaled heat starts at 9am :/). I do not practice running so this was a untrained time. And there were huge ass hills.
So getting that info out of the way....It took me 48 minutes :/
Lots of walking took place. I'm thinking the actual 5k is flat so my time will improve.
I'm laughing at myself for this. Somebody tell me that your time in the beginning was like this? I have 6 weeks to improve.
Everyone has to start somewhere. Try not to focus on the end time. Especialy if you don't run much, just finishing a 5k is a big accomplishment! And you have 6 weeks to train, you got this!
Also, hills slow the best of us down. I'm willing to bet on a flat cours, your time will be better than today.

I agree everyone has to start somewhere. And 6 weeks you have plenty of time to start training some more and shave off minutes. Hills throw everyone.
My first 5k with limited training was 41 minutes. I did a few more and trained some more and in 6 weeks I was down to almost 35 minutes. I did interval training similar to C25k. I started at walk 2 mins/run 1 then slowly got to 1 walk/1 run and then 2 run/1 walk, etc.
It's so true that everyone has to start somewhere. You are way better at crossfit than those of us who don't practice at it, and everyone isn't going to be the best at ( or even like) the same things. You can look at this 5K training as a new challenge, but running is not something everyone is going to love. I think you've got plenty of time to improve, and hopefully it will make you a stronger athlete overall. Hills make things tough, so even with a flatter course you'll naturally see some gains in speed. GL!
ETA: And yes-- my first 5K time even with training is so much slower than what I can run now. Even with a few runs per week you'll see your times improve.

My first 5k took 47 min. Heh.
These days I'm still slow, but now my 5k time is around 35-36 min. You just have to stick with it, and faster times will come.
I'll never win a race (top women in my area are always sub-20 min), but I'm constantly improving in little increments; one of these days I'll make it to the middle of the pack at ~30 min!
