I've been washing as I get stuff. Any clothes I buy have been washed and are in a pile to be organized. My mom is making the sheets and has been washing as she makes them.
I feel weird laying out a crib sheet and changing pad cover a whole month or more before the baby comes, kwim? But I guess you can always wash them and just put it all away until you get closer. I think you can wash whenever you are ready to so long as you are in the 30s.
I have a ton of NB and 0-3M hand-me-downs so I'll wash them but I'm too nervous about cutting tags off NB NWT stuff until after he is born. I think I need to plan on a 10 lber.
I have only washed the hand me down items and crib sheet I put on the crib. All the new stuff with tags I haven't washed yet. I am waiting until after my shower to see what I all get.
I bought about 90 % of her clothing at consignments sales in the spring. So I washed that stuff as I got it, since it was used already. I also washed hand me downs from friends and family as I got them. New stuff I washed if I knew 100% that I wanted to keep it.Antyhing I wasn't sure of I kept the tags on and will either wash when I decide to use it, or sell at consignment with tags on. We didn't get a ton of clothing though which was nice.
As far as bedding, I washed two crib sheets, two mattress protector pads, and two changing covers about 3 weeks ago and have them ready to go. The rest I will wash as I need.
ETA: oh, I also washed the cover for the MamaRoo and the bouncer when I got them, which was early like around 19-20 weeks. But I bought them both used so I knew needing to return them wasn't an issue.
I started washing bedding, towels, and some clothes at 32 weeks. I have tags on most newborn clothes and won't wash them until I know she'll fit in them.
We didn't buy any clothing for the baby prior to our baby shower, so we washed clothing after the baby shower at 32 weeks. We have since bought more blankets and clothing which have all been washed.
