I had a Pap with abnormal results prior to my surgery during my annual; it went to patho and they want to remove the section. She had told me I needed a leep, but postponed it since my other surgery took priority.
I'm just looking for anyone who's had the procedure done so i know what to expect.
Yes. I had it in 2004, it was truly no big deal. I had it on a Friday and was back at work Monday. The colposcopy was more painful. I've had all normal paps since then.
Same. They put me out, I woke up and my H drove me home. I spotted for a while, but it really was not that big of a deal, thankfully.
I was not knocked out for mine. In fact, I was given nothing. It was the worst pain I have ever felt in my life. And I've since that 3 babies completely unmedicated - I'd rather do that than have another LEEP. I'm sorry. :-(

I don't believe this is the norm, thankfully!
I have to admit, now that I'm reading other people's replies, I'm pissed. The doctor was completely unsympathetic, like it was my fault I was in there (I wasn't married.) He was actually a real asshole considering how much pain I was in - no warning about how bad it would hurt either. It was a 3 minute deal, and then he walked out, the nurse told me to get dressed, and then I left with my boyfriend without so much as a "goodbye" from the staff. Oh, what my 20 year old self would put up with.... *shaking my head.*

This sounds a lot like mine. I was 18 and had it done at a Catholic hospital. Before starting the procedure he asked if I was sexually active and proceeded to lecture me about why sex before marriage is bad(still with him 7 years later, so suck it Dr. McJudgy) Then did the LEEP. I was furious. He was so unsympathetic. The shots to numb it were the worst part but it really wasn't bad. I felt fine the next day and normal paps ever since.
I had one when I was in high school. I wasn't knocked out, just a local. I stood up too fast after they were finished and told me I was good to go, and I passed out. It wasn't too painful, but the spotting lasted for a few days for me.
Yep, I have had a few colpos and one LEEP (a conization b/c it went a bit deeper than a traditional). I think most doctors these days do them in-office, but I know a friend of mine had one done recently and they knocked her out. I saw a gynecological oncologist as a second opinion for mine b/c we were in the midst of TTC and she said she would have me under a local b/c she was a surgeon and used to having her patients unconscious and not wiggly lol. I opted to have my obgyn do it in-office.
It was so seriously the no biggest deal at all. Like the teeny tiniest pinch and the teeny tiniest cramping. She did snip an area that had not been numbed and I will say that was a bracing pain for all of half a second and it was over. For me, if I had been working, I totally could have returned to the office. I am a SAHM so my DH did come home to watch my son, but he could have returned to work.
I know some people seem more sensitive down there and it will depend on where you are in your cycle or whatnot (my SIL thought her colpo was absolutely horrible and none of mine have ever bothered me), but I vote NBD!

Mine really just felt like a pinch in the moment, but my cervix was pretty painful the next day. It wasn't unbearable pain, but I could definitely feel it. It felt like pretty much what it was a big scrape inside my body.
I had a conization done as well. I was put under, which based on these posts, I would recommend. I was crampy but was fine the next day. I had it done in 2003 and have had normal paps since and two kids as well with no cervix issues.
I had one in 2012. The procedure itself felt like heavy cramping, and I didn't even feel them do the local anesthetic. Recovery was fine, no sex for six weeks afterwards.
I will say I wish I had chosen to just have them monitor my abnormal cells through repeat paps, instead of getting the LEEP. When the doctor called with the pathology, he told me everything was clear "so we probably didn't even have to do that."

Ugh, this is awful. I felt the second section he removed, but I wasn't supposed to - the local had worn off. I almost jumped clear off the table; I can't imagine having nothing for the whole thing.
I've had freezing, 2 leeps, and a cone biopsy(conization).
The freezing and leep were done in office. Uncomfortable similar to the vinegar solution they do during colposcopy. The cone biopsy was more extensive and done as outpatient. I was in pain for a few days and bleed for a week until I called and went back into the doctor and they gave me hormones for a few days to stop the bleeding. Definitely don't schedule it a week before your wedding because the doc was wrong when she said you will be fine in 2 days :/
I've had to get repeat paps every 6 months since 2006 and I've had abnormal findings but they were not the high grade that cause cancer that I had back then. Sometimes pregnancy gives me abnormal ones. I've had 3 kids, but I do think my water broke with 2 pregnancies because of the large tissue removal.

I think knowing the grade of dysplasia helps in discussing waiting. For me I had high grade and HPV. It was only a little over a year before I had a cone biopsy where they take a pretty large chunk out.
Now when I have to have a repeat, if my insurance pays I get the HPV test. It will tell me if I have the cancer causing presence of HPV rather than just getting "abnormal cells". 2 times I've had abnormal results with a pap alone, then I have had the colposcopy then the findings were normal.
