He can drink from them just fine, but the temptation to pour the water out is so strong that he doesn't get to very often. He's fine with any style straw/sippy/training cup we give him. I'm not too concerned about switching to an open cup anytime soon.
We normally use sippies or straw cups at home but she drinks from an open cup sometimes too. Usually if we are at my mom's or something and we don't have a sippy she'll use a cup. She's pretty good with them but she does spill sometimes.
Open cups except he still gets sippies of milk at bed. Bedtime is hellish enough that I'm not bothering to cut the milk until any other part of the routine improves.
His daycare doesn't allow anything but open cups in the 18M+ room.
She has been drinking from open cups at school for quite a while. At home we just started giving her open cups about a month or so ago. I still give her a sippy cup in the car and milk at bedtime.

Open cup, only allowed at table or if I hold it for him since they are usually glass. We tried straw cups a couple of times, but he would only chew on them.
Nope. Basically never. She's used my open cup before and she drinks the milk out of her cereal bowl so I know she can but I don't see why this is a thing... I would have to watch her way too closely. I'm lazy. Haha she also can drink from regular water bottles so I guess that's similar. Sometimes she gets too much and coughs.

We tried a few times with milk, but she tipped it over every time. I will have to try again sometime with some water. She's good at drinking from the cup, it's when she is doing other stuff and not paying attention that she bumps it and knocks it over.
Yes, but mostly because she does in the toddler room at daycare. They started doing it in the spring prior to her switch to the toddler room, so we followed suit. She still uses a siply in the car or when she insists on having a cup in the family room / at bedtime.

They only allow open cups at school, so it was a steep learning curve. At home it's more sippy cup than not. They use a thermos with a straw daily, too. We try to use the open cup at home, but forget a lot.
We use the Take and Toss cups with lids. He only drinks from an open cup when it's someone else's. I am not ready for spills and giant messes. When is the age they are "supposed" to be doing this?
We've gone back and forth for months. Every single time after a week or two of using open cups she'll purposely pour out her drink as soon as she's bored at the table EVERY SINGLE TIME. So we go back to the lidded take and toss cups. It's not a capability issue -- if it were accidental I wouldn't be nearly so annoyed about the issue.
We have all 3 in the rotation. When she moved to the next room (a few weeks ago) this is something that they start to work on, so I don't think it was expected at her age.
He's gotten pretty good at the open cup, but we only let him do it if we're right there. He uses straw and sippy cups around the house or out and about since he can't be trusted not to dump it yet.

I feel dumb bc I was looking for new cups at the store and they were all for such young ages. Duh.
I just started giving her an open cup. She dropped the whole thing on the floor literally 5 minutes ago. She doesn't drink a ton of plain water so I'm scared for this.
When he moved up to the 2-year old room at daycare they switched to open cups. I will let him have an open cup with water and sometimes milk if he's sitting at the table with one of us present. If he wants water and is going to be running around/right before bed, we still use sippy cups. We also use sippy cups in the car.
