Man, didn't you all feel really badly for Anthony Michael Hall? I mean, everyone else in that movie was hooking up and he was stuck writing their damn essay. Which was only like 3 sentences but whatever.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."
at least he got high as fuck first. thats something
Yeah...okay, so he was high and suddenly transformed into a blues guitarist or something? I guess it's a wonder he finished the essay at all then. I smoke a joint and I get distracted halfway through a sentence.

I felt bad for him until they all grew up and Judd Nelson turned dumpy, Emilio just went meh, and Anthony Michael Hall looked like a damned model by comparison.

Shifting gears a bit. Can someone please explain fanfic and why it's a thing? I picked up on the mention in the 50 shades thread that it was actually based off of Twighlight? Huh? FTR, I've never read/seen any of that Twighlight shit, or 50 shades shit.

FF is a thing because people like to imagine how they think something should have gone. Once upon a time I wrote a ton of fan fic, like when I was a teenager. I wrote 90210 fan fic, party of five fan fic, Highlander (shaddup). From a writing point of view, it's kind of a good way to wade into writing, kind of like a creative writing exercise as your background and most of your characters are already developed.
Plus, it's just fun. Choose your own adventure as it were.

Fanfic has been around since the 90s, at least. I mean, I read buffy fanfic in 1997.
Why is twi ff popular? Probably b/c the books were but unsatisfactorily devoid of sex. Enter a hot movie star to play the lead and boom sex fantasies were written.
FTR I have actually never read twilight. Fanfic is free so I just hop around on there.
ETA: eclaires, there is a ton of TWD FF now. mostly Daryl and Beth

Oh I am aware! I know some of the people who are writing it, lol!
The TWD fandom is sort of terrifying though. The Carol fans scare me in so many ways. They're all obsessed with her being a "queen" and wanting Daryl to bang her (uh no). They also write disturbing fanfic they call McReedus. I swear to god they all think that if Carol and Daryl don't get together norman reedus is personally rejecting them while they dance naked in front of him.
I'm pretty sure the show is going to go there with Beth and Daryl, though - it seemed clear that the episode Alone was setting up something. Beth is definitely alive and filming and allegedly has a "huge" role in season 5 that they are being super secretive about. But because of her connection to Daryl all the Carol fans act like a bunch of bunny boilers commenting on anything involving Beth saying she should die. Last week on twitter a bunch of them tweeted Reedus telling they want Daryl to die and even tagged his costar from the boondock saints in the tweets telling them to come get his boy because he's disgusting. They also say he's (Daryl - hello he is a fictional character!!) is a pedophile (hello, an 18yo girl =/= pedophilia).
It's like they watch a totally different show and live in a different reality. It almost made me quit the internet, I was so disturbed by them and how seriously they take this shit. I'm only kind of kidding.

where have you been hanging out on the internet? lol
Well back when season 4 was ending, I was looking for info/spoilers on what might be coming up (maybe right before The Grove), and I used to read the discussion on the TWOP forums (but it wasn't like that there at all). Anyway, someone there posted a link to a TWD forum that had spoilers, and that's where I found all this craziness. The forum hates Daryl, Beth and Rick (as well as the writers and AMC) and is full of Carol fans (which honestly I find bizarre. I never hated her before but I was indifferent to her; now I hate her because her fans are insane). The Carol fans call themselves "Caryl" fans because they "ship" Daryl and Carol, and all these middle aged women hang out on tumblr and twitter talking about Carol/Caryl. Which, I admit, blew my mind. I never thought that Daryl and Carol were a thing, just that they were friends/family. Like siblings? IDK. Just that they were close, but not romantic, especially after that scene in the first episode of season 4, where she called him "pookie." It just seemed like a teasing sibling relationship vs. people who were going to bang. Oddly, they hate Daryl and say he's not good enough for their queen after his terrible development in season 4. But yet they still want him to get with Carol...
It's fascinating and disturbing all at once. It's like a rabbit hole I can't leave, because it's entertaining to sort of watch their descent into madness due to how invested they are in this. I think my favorite part of it all is that they claim to be feminists, and that's one of their reasons for hating pairing Daryl (they say he's 45, which no... NR is 45, but I think Daryl is younger) with Beth because it's the hollywood stereotype of the young, hot blond with the "heartthrob." And while bitching incessantly (they tweet the writers/producers of AMC all the time) about how sexist it is to pit a middle aged woman against a teenage girl (they also say Beth is a child, while saying Carl is an adult; it's like an endless list of bizarre statements that don't make sense), they rant non stop about how Emily Kinney (Beth) is a horrible actress who is clearly sleeping her way to the top and insult her fans and people who like the Beth/Daryl pairing by talking about how they are stupid teenage girls (uhhh...).
The funniest thing, though, is that they draw this weird parallel between Beth/Daryl fans and Twilight, claiming that AMC is "trolling" this relationship to draw in teenage fangirls who liked Twilight. And I'm like, "hey idiots, if you ever read a news article about the Twilight phenomenon you would know that what made Twilight so successful were the rabid, middle aged fangirls... LIKE YOURSELVES." It's amusing.
It's bizarre and fascinating. Like a train wreck I can't look away from. I figure Carol is probably going to die soon, and I do really think the show is going to pair up Beth/Daryl so I imagine the meltdown will be intense.
I know something else that I have been hearing all of a sudden, and it annoys me because I think it's so stupid. Where did "not for nothing" put at the beginning of a sentence come from? It makes no sense, and the context clues don't help.
It seems like it's a synonym for "this isn't important, but..."
What? No way. There will be anarchy. I don't think TWD wants to alienate a huge part of their fan base.
And...um...I like Carol. Beth...eh, not so much. I would have much preferred a Carol/Daryl relationship. I swear I don't write or read fanfic though!
UGH, I just posted a huge long post including spoiler tags with filming spoilers and proboards ate it. Sigh.
Short version: I'm not a major Beth fan, but I am interested to see where they take the character because I think there's a lot of room for development since she's been in the background. I think that we will see that based (a bigger story for her) based on the filming spoilers, and also based on the filming spoilers, Carol's life is in danger. I'm actually a big fan of Daryl and part of the reason I have come to dislike the Carol fans I've found on the internet is how hateful they are towards Daryl and how dedicated to that hate they are. I also don't know that the writers care about alienating a small subset of fans when their viewership is 15 million. Carol is very few people's favorite character in the grand scheme of things, and on top of that, Kirkman has been quoted as saying he hates the "If Daryl dies, we riot." I don't think Carol has the same AMC armor that Daryl does (he's owned solely by them so they make more money off him than the other comic book characters), and they give the yay or nay to story lines. So I don't think upsetting fans is something on their mind, and even if it was, after some of the vicious stuff I've seen that is tweeted to them by this same group of people, I'm not sure they'd care so much about alienating them.
As for the relationship stuff, I just never saw a romantic connection, and I think both characters are in much different places after season 4. I think they were setting up the potential for Beth/Daryl, and I think they are probably going there. I guess what I'm saying is that I could have been swayed either way (or neither way), but based on what we've seen, I don't think they're going to put Daryl/Carol in a relationship and are probably going to put Daryl/Beth in a relationship. I actually thought they went out of their way during season 4 to show Daryl and Carol's connections to other people, not each other.

I'm still stuck on the bey/bae thing - I really thought people were talking about Beyonce and now I feel stupid. And I'm pretty young and work with high school students, I can't believe I hadn't figured that out yet. Maybe I am not as young as I thought. haha.
I had hoped, awhile back, that daryl and carol were going to team up and then sort of become leaders of the group, taking power away from Rick. That probably would have been the end of the series though.
I think if Carol or Daryl dies, I'd be pretty upset. Daryl is a no way - too much invested there and he is way way too popular. Rick and Carl are fair game. Beth, Glen, Maggie, pretty much anyone but Carol or Daryl at this point.
And I cannot believe I am still invested in this show...
moreace01 and @majorwife - from what I can tell in the fandom, it seems like most people think the Fantastic Four are safe (Rick, Carl, Daryl and Michonne), but that anyone else is fair game. The reasoning is this: Rick and Carl are the main characters of the comic, and in the comic, it's ultimately Rick's story but everyone suspects (rightly so I think) that Carl is eventually going to be the leader if Rick dies. Kirkman and AMC sign off on the scripts written from what I understand and Kirkman would never agree to killing of Rick or Carl, and AMC will never sign off on killing Daryl since they own him and he is a literal cash cow for them. They make a lot more money off him because he's an original character - which I suspect might be why they are giving Beth a bigger role because she is also an original character. If they can hype her and have her gain popularity, making her one of the main females, they'll have a female cash cow/sex symbol, too. (that's totally a conspiracy theory on my part though).
I'm not entirely clear on why Michonne is considered one of the untouchables among fans (in that she's never really in danger, in their opinions) but I think it's because she's the resident female badass and is close to Rick/Carl. Like they basically have made her a stoic badass from her introduction...IDK.
It seems like Carol, Glenn and Maggie get thrown around a lot as the next main character deaths. Carol because she was supposed to die in season 3, so people think there might not be much story left for her, I guess. And after her arc this season, she seems to be in an odd place. I'm not really sure where they go from there with her, and the show has historically not been great about actual redemption; redemption happens in death for the most part. The cast is pretty big right now, too. Glenn/Maggie because of that picture foreshadowing in season 4.
At the same time, it's clear that the new showrunner (probably part of why he was hired) is not really on the shocking death bandwagon and just killing off characters like crazy. From what I understand, season 3 is considered the worst, and AMC wants the show to be more character driven (which honestly I think makes sense - you can't really have a rotating group of dying people around your 3 or so main developed characters). It was kind of a massacre and there was a lot of dumb stuff. The new showrunner has plotted out the story through season 6, I think, and the old one from season 3, would still be changing major plot points in between filming. Allegedly, AMC is very cheap so they wanted a plotted out story to minimize reshoots, etc. that went on during Season 3. My personal thoughts on season 4 is that it was meant to sort of reboot the story, develop more of the main characters, and by separating them all and having them be on the road, make them all believably tough/ready to survive. I think unfortunately, Hershel had to die if they were going back out on the road. I still am so sad about that.
eclaires, when was carol supposed to die in season 3?
i think they need carol b/c someone has to watch the damn baby. beth cant do it and hook up with daryl.
When she was with T-Dog and he saved her. She was supposed to die and he was supposed to live or they both were supposed to die. She ended up being locked in one of the cells and I think Daryl found her.
Filming spoilers suggest they will be making it to Alexandria (or a similar type place) soon so there will be more people around and more of a community to watch the baby.
Besides Tyreese is like the best baby caregiver ever. Poor Ty stuck with Carol who murdered his girlfriend and crazy Lizzie. And a baby.

so they wont stick with terminus? i thought that creepy pastor guy was sticking on? the one that has beth? maybe that will only be the first half of S5.
They get out of Terminus in episode 1 and stopped filming there after episode 1 - the location is back to whatever it was before. Gareth will still be around for awhile at least but the writers have said he's not the big bad this season...eek.
There have been pics of cars with the white crosses and Daryl and Carol and others following the cars with crosses, so speculation is the white cross people have Beth and they're trying to find her. I think they are filming episode 8 maybe once they get back from comic con (which is today, and there should be a trailer that includes scenes from the first 4 episodes).
But the studio recently started building a wall around some townhouses in the area they film in (there were hearings to allow the wall to go up and stuff), and they will be filming there starting in September, apparently - so some time during the back half of the season.
There are pics of her in a van that goes off a bridge and flips (Daryl is with her, but he was spotted filming after the fact - could be out of order I guess, but he was shown with other people filming like Rick, Sasha, etc.), there are pics of her being hit by a car, and pics of her collapsing on the sidewalk and being put into a car with a white cross on the back, and she was filming in a building with a bunch of walkers in it by herself. So no clue how it will shake out in the episode, but there was time period where she was getting pretty beat up, and then Daryl was later seen filming with others on the next episode but she wasn't.
