I'm crazy addicted to diet coke. But I figure I exercise , eat decently well, don't do drugs, rarely drink... I will have my soda.
Henry is 7 and had soda for the first time a few months ago when he had an upset stomach (sprite). I'm trying to keep it away from him as long as possible. It isn't really a presence in his age group/friends yet. Gatorade is the current battle.
Coffee is my current addiction. I get a headache if I don't drink it. I like soda well enough, but I don't even keep it in the house because I lack self control.
Those giant circle earrings are so dumb. Like the ones that stretch your earlobe to huge circles. WHY??
I assume the ear skin won't just shrink back to normal?
I don't get it
DH's cousin had one of those gauges in his ears.
WARNING, GROSS DESCRIPTION BELOW!!
It stretched too much and tore! And no, it doesn't go back to normal. Now, he's got this long tail-like piece of skin hanging from his ear that he'll need plastic surgery to fix. And he's only about 18, so it's not like he can afford it.

I wish we couldn't water our lawn! I wouldn't care about a brown lawn, but our HOA sure does. So we pay the $50-$75 a month just to water our stupid green grass. It would cut down on H having to mow so often as well. If we ever move it will be to a place without an HOA and we'll rock the brown lawn all summer long.
I just saw the preview for the Fifty Shades movie and I can't stand the girl they cast for Anastasia. Her haircut bothers me a lot with those disheveled bangs. And Christian has one helluva body but I saw him being more stunningly handsome. I'm disappointed.
I had to go watch it after your post. I am also disappointed. He is definitely not "OMG stop in my tracks and stare at this amazingly handsome guy that is walking by" like they portray him in the books. Something is off to me about his eyes/spacing, not quite sure. Yes, he has a good body, but meh for the rest. As far as Anastasia goes, I think she comes off as being very meek, childlike and completely fashion backwards and sloppy in the preview and I didn't get that exact combo from the books, if that makes sense.
Some of my family are suffering in Iraq with the Chaldean Christian plight, and I want to help them. It's making me feel incredibly assholish that the refugee programs in canada and the states are not taking in Iraqis at this time. It's just frustrating when they call with hope in their voices and I have to tell them this isn't working. I'm really hoping the program opens again this yr, I think that's my UO, that it's closed and helping them is next to impossible.
I'm so sorry. How scary it must be for them. Are there any other nations willing to help? Or are they only looking at the US and Canada?
This world is so fucked and I feel like nothing is being done to help save it.

DH and I both had our ear lobes gauged and wore plugs. DH went up to a 0 so the hole was about the thickness of a sharpie. I only went up to a 4(about the thickness of a pencil) because I have two holes in each lobe and they were getting to close to each other.
I took mine out at the end of 2009 so I could wear normal earrings for my wedding in 2010. DH took his out in 2011 for a new job that didn't allow them. You cannot tell whatsoever that they were ever stretched. They just look like normally pierced ears.
rainbowchip and charlielove, they are not telling people not to water. We have restrictions and are following them.
However, in the news in the past few months there have been illegal marijuana grows that have been found to be stealing water from reserves, and a bunch of pipe breaks in the city. The city needs to slowly retrofit all of its old pipes.
The real problem is that CA hasn't done anything to increase its water supply since the 70s, but the population has increased exponentially. - according to doc on the roc....I'm not sure how reliable that is.
Ummmm you're joking, right? California hasn't done anything to increase the water supply? You mean they haven't somehow created a machine that forces it to rain during times of severe drought (like right now??) You know that your state is so dry right now, right? It's on the news every single night.
Instead of complaining that your lawn isn't green, maybe think about why the state is making such an effort to make a brown lawn a status symbol? Or replace your grass with desert plants that don't require as much water?
I used to have a little stud in my nose and I loved it. I wish I could get it done again but my h always hated it. I had to take it out for a job, they wouldn't even let me keep a clear one in.
I'm still really annoyed our HOA made us put more grass in the back than we wanted. Colorado can have droughts so we wanted just a small patch of grass in the back, and they said no, 50% of it had to be grass.
ETA: I also don't understand the point of front yard grass, ours is so small you can't play in it but once again our HOA makes you have a certain grass amount.
OK, I realize I've only been here one hot second, but with all of the emphasis on xeriscaping and water conservation out here, I cannot fathom setting minimum amounts for grass! Do they dictate the type of grass too, or is it just the amount? And why the heck would they care what's in the back? The front I can understand, sort of, but the back?

Yes.
"The real problem is that CA hasn't done anything to increase its water supply since the 70s, but the population has increased exponentially."
See, this isn't the real problem. The real problem is that we are very literally running out of water globally, but particularly in the western half of the US. The only way for CA to increase its water supply is A) reverse climate change (can someone get on that, please?), B) work with the other 7 states that share water rights access to the Colorado River (the West's primary source of fresh water because it captures all runoff off the western slope of the Rocky Mountain Continental Divide) and renegotiate archaic water right laws and loopholes that were originally established in the late 1800s and minimally renegotiated in the 60's and 70's. California COULD attempt to get more water out of those old rights and laws, and theoretically COULD win. But you know, we kind of need Utah, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico and Colorado to have some water too....
I'm obviously vastly oversimplifying this issue, and will try to find some articles if anyone's interested, but the fact that this topic is not understood as a DIRE situation across the board is infuriating. No, your tiny patch of lawn isn't going to destroy the world. But if everyone in 6 states thinks the same way you do, we're all going to be screwed fast. Unless we go with option C): magic rain machines.

It's impossible to get visas at this time in Iraq, my uncle has a son living in Sweden and there is no way to join him there either. and the surrounding countries are already flooded with Palestinians and whatever Christians managed to flee. I know Jordan has always been a favoured place for Christian refugees but I'm not sure they're accepting.
I will never have a burrito bowl from Chiptole again. My poor tummy.
I had turrible shits from a carnitas bowl when I was pregnant with J. I legit thought I was having a miscarriage. I didn't it Chipotle again until after she was born! Not worth it.

They don't dictate the type thank goodness, but yes I was shocked when they turned down our backyard landscaping because it didn't have enough grass. Luckily our front yard has almost none because of the way the driveway and house are laid out so there isn't much to water up there. If I had it my way there would be none in the front and half of what there is in the back.
I can't decide if I want to cover my tattoo up with a larger, brighter tattoo or get it removed. Something needs to be done.
I side-eye my neighbors who don't recycle. The recycling pick up is part of the city bill we pay. Perhaps they save it and cash it in. Idk.
I am really irritated by the California official who said a brown lawn should be a badge of honor. Our houses arethisclose to each other. Seriously, my little patch of grass is not draining the water reserves.
Wait, you side eye your neighbors for not recycling...but you think it's dumb to try and conserve water in your yard?
No. I do conserve water. We have reduced the days and minutes on our sprinklers since they have told us to cut back.

Agreed. After living in the Central Valley, CA and now in Denver, I'm getting to be pretty anti-lawn. Some sod used in moderation (and making sure it's an appropriate type for the climate you are in) can be really attractive, but trying to transplant the East Coast lawn aesthetic out here just won't work! I'm hoping that we can just eliminate most of the grass at our new house... leave enough for the dog and the kid to run on, and put xeric beds everywhere else. And if the grass turns out to be Kentucky Blue Grass, well, maybe all of it will go and be replaced with something more appropriate.
If I'm going to spend time, water, and money coddling green things along, it better reward me with a bumper crop of something at the end of the growing season!

I said I wasn't sure how reliable that report was because it was doc on the rock. He reports the news, but he is also a shock jock reporter on an alternative station.
I cant replace my grass with desert landscaping. The HOA won't approve it. I've cut back on the days and minutes of watering, so I am well within what the state says we should be doing right now. Plus, I am well under the allotment of water issued to our household from the city. We use half or less what they think a family household should use.
I know the drought is severe. It's been in the news a lot. Plus, we had a dry, hot winter.
I live in CA and I HAAAAATE how many homes have grass when they shouldn't, like all of them. So much wasted water. Zero scraping can look really nice and no watering required. It's especially bad where we used to live (and will live again). You do not need grass in the freakin desert.
I can't do Chipotle either, it makes me feel too sick after.
DH drinks tons of soda. I drink it occasionally while out, but never at home. I have no problem offering G regular soda as a treat while out, though right now she hates it. I give her chocolate milk as a treat sometimes and don't feel soda is much different.
I DETEST diet soda and really anything with artificial sweeteners in it. I hate the taste it leaves in my mouth and don't think I've ever been fooled into thinking it tastes like real sugar. So many times I'd take a bite or two of yogurt or a sip or two of a protein shake and have to go back and check the date and the ingredients bc it just tasted off to me. It's always the fake sweetener.
I live in Seattle where we don't have water problems and I love my natively landscaped/no water/low maintenance yard. We have a small patch of grass in the back but otherwise have a bunch of plants that we don't have to water or mow. We hire landscapers twice a year and otherwise do maybe 30 minutes of yard work a month (often less) to keep it looking really nice. I use a few cups of water every few days for my basil, rosemary, and cilantro plants in containers on the deck.

Man, I'm the same way with anything with artificial sweetener. Since I drink only the full sugar stuff, I tend to buy unsweetened or fruit only, no added sugar yogurts and drink about 2 cans of soda a month. About the only thing I can almost tolerate with sweetener is Diet Dr. Pepper. I wonder why some people have such a hard time with it and some can't even taste it?

Interesting question -- I have no idea but I've never been able to tolerate it. I'm not anti-sugar, but I'd much rather have a moderate amount of a full-fat/full-sugar treat than more of the fake stuff. I'm just not convinced that trying to trick your body with "diet" products actually works. And besides the sugar, I find the full fat stuff more satisfying so I crave less and eat less in the end.

I don't get it
My best friend and I are polar opposites and she has her ears gauged out. I don't know what size hers were, but she made them pretty big in college ( an inch and a half maybe? they are smaller now) and her ears look like little shriveled up buttholes when they are out. I think they go back to normal if you keep them small, but the big ones never close up quite right.

I have a UO. My friends brother bought a beautiful dog a Doberman, it's huge and gorgeous and apparently he imported it from Germany,..he bought it just to show it off. The thing lives in the back yard tied to a pole all day and night. It's not allowed in the house at all. The guys is out working and partying every day and night and rarely even goes home to the dog. His younger brother takes it for walks and feeds it when he's not busy...but the dog is so sad, lonely and neglected, it's purely ornamental and it makes me sad, I don't think he should have the dog, I hate when ppl don't take care of pets. If I thought it would do anything I'd call someone to come take it away.

That's not an UO. You can call animal control if you think it's suffering. Does he have any shelter?

It's tied up in the backyard at all times...I think there is a patio shade above her? But Michigan summers are brutal and our winters are awful...I didn't know they can do many thing about it unless the dog is actually abused.

I'm not sure but if it's a really hot or cold day that might be enough.
