Yes, it really bothers me. I try to correct myself but it's just habit to slouch. I took an org chart picture at work last week and I look like I'm slouching...nice.
Yep. Only thing that helps is to sit on a swiss ball instead of my usual chair: it forces me to arch and keep my feet flat on the ground. Can't do it all day though as I'm not used to it yet and my lower back muscles aren't fit enough.
I slouch badly too, which makes me look even shorter than I already am (I'm 4'11). I found that if I'm mindful of it and keep reminding myself to stand up straight, it becomes habit and I don't have to consciously think of it so much. Yoga really helps improve posture as well.
Not really. I sit/stand straight more often than I slouch. My 7th grade choir teacher was strict. He would make you stand for the rest of class if he caught your back touching the chair or if you were not sitting at the edge of your seat. I think it stuck.
It's a work in progress but with my back issues I really have no choice but to improve on it. I've started to put a small towel rolled up under my butt which is uncomfortable and forces me to sit up straight. The PT said you should be sitting so that your hips are tilted down above your knees.
BAMFMrsB, my PT told me that those do help but to be careful because you can become reliant on it, and it can actually weaken the muscles in the long run.

so.... you're saying I should like... work out my core muscles?! uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhggggghhhhhhh. I'm too lazy for that.
Yes! It's such a problem for me. I'll catch myself in a store mirror and be like omg I'm a hunchback. I don't even realize I'm doing it, so I don't know how to change it.
I've often said I wish there were a little sensor you could clip on your shirt or bra that would buzz when you slouch. Maybe fitbit will work that into their devices, lol.

Oh, I hear ya. Swimming has actually been amazing for me. I was to the point where I was in tears daily from the pain but I am feeling a lot better with swimming. And it's easy things like using a kickboard and some scissor kicks and stuff in the water.
It's easy now because we have a pool and it's open for the summer. Once we close it, I'll have to like, find a gym/pool and make time for that. Yeahhhh... that's going to be close to impossible!

I'm horrible about slouching, especially when driving. I'll catch myself slouching in the car and straighten up, and be surprised how much easier it is to breathe, and how much room there is between the steering wheel and my body.
No. I've worked for so many years with people who have shoulder, back and neck Paine that are in part (and sometimes entirely) a result of poor posture. It also closes down lung space so if you have any breathing issues it can make them seem worse. I recommend chest stretches and upper back (mid and lower trap) strengthening. Also, doing things like setting timers for regular stretch breaks at work if you are at a computer and adjusting mirrors in cars when you are sitting up straight. If you can't see right out of them anymore time to sit up straight!
