Does anyone go there? Is it truly friendly? I don't need all the extras, just general gym type stuff. I know the biggest complaints are from people looking for a little more hardcore and not finding it to meet their needs.
Just tossing around the idea of joining once I pick up both jobs. I'd like to really lose this weight and now I'll be working pretty much next door to one so I can justify the drive.
I go there or used to, anyway. It is okay. Every tends to mind their own business. The facilities are fairly nice and there are always plenty of machines to work out on.
If you are just looking for general gym type stuff then it's probably great. There's always plenty of machines and weights to go around. I know around here the newer franchises don't have free weights that go up as high in weight (probably not a problem they still go up HIGH) and a lot are shying away from squat racks/benches and opting for Smith Machines.

I'm a member. I'm doing couch to 5k so I've really only used the treadmills. I've never had a wait and there are always plenty of machines available and I go during peak after work hours. I have the one year, $20/month black card so I can go to any location.
I was a member of a PF by our old house. It was just fine. It was always clean, and there were plenty of machines and weights. The only other gym I had ever been a member of was Golds Gym, and I did feel more comfortable around the PF crowd, lol (the Golds I went to was full of "the beautiful people", PF was much more "average").

Things I liked about it - people don't bother you.
Things I didn't like - the one closest to me was always packed with people on the ellipticals. Which is what I like to do. Also, you couldn't get near the weight machines like ever. Dudes would just crowd them and sit around.
I joined a smaller 24 hour fitness place and was much happier.
This is like, our only gym. Well, there IS one closer but it's about $40 a month and full of buff dudes and I'd get nothing done besides looking and feeling self conscious lol.
Truly, I really just want an upright stationary bike to pedal away on and maybe lift a weight or two.

What timing - I'm actually thinking of joining a PF. There's one opening about 2 miles from my house and I'm about to start working from home full time, so I'm looking for something simple to get me out of the house. Thought 30 minutes on a treadmill over lunch wouldn't be a bad thing.
The PF I went to had weekly pizza and it really pissed me off. Pizza is like a majorly crave it trigger food for me so there I am trying to be healthy, dieting, and I get to smell pizza while trying to exercise. There were donuts nearly daily as well which bugged me. I finally jumped ship for a different place.

I go there and like it. Mine is really clean, everyone is really nice, and it's got all the equipment I need and like. There is also a huge range of people- from old to young and all different fitness levels, so it seems like even the more hardcore people have what they need.
Eta- my gym hours are weird- mon and wed 5:30am-7:30am and Fridays 9:00pm-11pm so I never see the pizza or bagels!
