HOWEVER, in many parts of New England a thick milkshake is called a frappe. I'm from southern New Hampshire and that's what we call it. Sure, two or three of us here might call it a frappe but - we need more central/northern New Englanders in here!
Maine Milkshake= milk+ice cream Think Milkshake= milk=more ice cream
Frappe - never ordered it, assume it's blended ice and flavoring (often coffee)
Awful-Awful - (in the article Saves posted, but not the same definition as in her article) = milkshake with ice cream on top (soft serve) which leads to the delightfully sexual Awful-Awful Hard On Top (hard serve ice cream on top)
and another favorite, if the Awful-Awful doesn't have enough calories
Shake-a-Sundae = Milkshake with a Sundae on top
And all the Booze, Beer, and Wine you need is on every corner. Gas station, grocery store, discount beverage store, redemption center...
Maine, the way life should be where life make sense again after you get past MA/RI/NH
Just another thing that makes me go, "WTF, Maine?"

My high school and between college job was scooping ice cream and making ice cream cakes at Baskin Robbins. Peanut Butter and Chocolate and Chocolate Fudge milkshakes were the worst to make. I still have my scooping arm too.

meh. it's ok. expensive, especially at the Gifford's stands (vs. the convenience stores that serve Gifford's). H and I went Sat. and a 1 scoop kiddie sundae and a sm. smoothie was $9.
The dairy bar in our town serves Annabelle's (organic?? from VT??) that's expensive too.
but making the trek to Houlton for Houlton Farms Dairy, worth it. and cheap.
This is the most bizarre fucking thread. I refuse to believe that everyone in here is intimately acquainted with the term "vocal fry" but me, and yet everyone goes haywire about frappes and Crush.
I only know what it is because I'm a vocalist; it's used as a technique to spread and loosen your vocal cords so you can hit higher notes. But I only just learned the term a few months ago. It can damage your voice if used too much.
Some of the groceries have added small restaurants with beer areas to you can buy your two six packs. There was even something about certain Sheetz maybe getting approval for similar options.
Sheetz but not Wawa? Sheetz doesn't exist in my area of PA (or at least I don't care to find it). If I can buy beer at Wawa instead of having to stop at Wegman's my life will be complete.
So far it is just the one Sheetz close to Shippensburg. The news reports said it took a lot to get the permit with the proximity to the college. We are sorta on the wawa/sheetz edge, the closest wawa is in MD.
Also, I blame @savestheday. If she hadn't brought the initial confusion, this thread would have ended on page one with all of us agreeing that hipsters are insufferable. The end.

I didn't read this yesterday but now that I see the content, @savedtheday is right. In our part of MA, if you order a "milkshake" it is milk and the vanilla (or chocolate, etc) syrup. There isn't any ice cream. When you order a milkshake they will say, milkshakes don't have ice cream in them, if you want ice cream in it you want a frappe.
Not sure about the rest of New England, but where we are in MA, she is 100% right about milkshake not containing ice cream.
Eta: it must be common enough that people expect or want ice cream in a milkshake because they now ask if you want a milkshake or frappe, but when I was growing up, it's what it was. You order a milkshake you will get a milkshake. They never asked.
I honestly don't remember if CT has beer in packies. I moved out before I could drink. I know in VA and PA the state run stores only have wine and liquor. In PA beer comes exclusively in cases from giant warehouses run by private parties. Or you can get 6 packs at some restaurants. Apparently the way PA decided to cut down on alcohol abuse was to make it too confusing for drunk people to figure out where to buy the drink they wanted.
