Love, love, love. When I read about the decision last night and went dancing into the bedroom to explain the implications to DH. We live in NC and know for sure the only way we'll get gay marriage is by the courts. It's awesome that this court is over so many southern states. Look out rednecks! Here comes gay marriage!
I wonder how long it will be before all 50 states have equal right for all.
I'm really optimistic about this... the states are falling like dominoes in the courts and it's hitting the appeals courts now (the 6th circuit - TN, KY, MI, OH is hearing a SSMB case from MI along with related cases from the other states in early August). I'm guessing the Supreme Court will have to take it up soonish. My understanding is that the 8th Circuit has a pre-DOMA ruling (like 2006 maybe) that the bans are constitutional, but if the other circuits are saying they aren't constitutional, then the Supreme Court will need to make the final ruling, if I understand the cases that are coming up correctly. Indiana's ban is on it's way to the 7th Circuit. VA is the 4th Circuit and theirs was ruled unconstitutional. The 10th Circuit (Utah) upheld the unconstitutional ruling a few months ago.
I'm going off memory, but I think the 9th and 5th circuit have cases coming up to the Court of Appeals too. So, the 4th, 10th and 8th have already ruled (but the 8th is pre-DOMA). The 6th has hearings scheduled in the next few weeks (the MI ban scheduled for a hearing and some related cases - one about recognizing SSM in TN), the 7th has Indiana's case coming up, and the 6th also has KY's ban coming up. I think the 9th has a few cases with SSMBs coming up, and the 5th's is about Texas, but I could be wrong.

Fantastic! Thank you for the info, I really appreciate it!

I heard a NPR story about this yesterday or the day before saying basically that it's very likely SSM will be the biggest case the Supreme Court takes next year. They essentially have to consider it with so many rulings and appeals this year.
