This probably could have gone in randoms, but heck, posting traffic has been slow, so I'm giving it its own post.
On Sunday, we went to my parents' old house (the one I grew up in). They had moved the furniture and other larger items, but there was still some stuff to pack up. So, we helped them with that, took some pictures, and headed over to the new house with our carloads of stuff. My mom had planned to make bloody marys for everyone to enjoy when we were done unpacking, but she discovered that, although she had bloody mary mix, the vodka was still at the old house. She debated going back for it (it's not far--about 7 miles away), but I figured we could check if there was a closer place we could run out and buy some vodka. I asked Siri, and she directed me to a nearby store, which is a combination liquor and hardware store. I did not even know this was a thing. I called to make sure they were open and that they had vodka, and my mom set off on a vodka run. As we were leaving, my mom said something about needing pliers too.
We walked into the tiny store, and the lady at the counter said, "Did you just call about vodka?" I laughed and said yes, and she pointed us in the right direction. Once we selected a bottle, I asked my mom, "What else was it you said you needed? Pliers?'
She said she wasn't serious about that, but she thought that it might be weird to *just* buy vodka.
I'm not sure buying vodka and pliers is any less weird than buying vodka alone. ^o)

I wish every store down here sold vodka. Stupid Texas liquor laws... we can't even buy any on Sunday at all! (bottles anyway, you can still go to a bar)
That's a funny story but good to know you were able to get what you needed for the Bloody Mary's!
Sounds like an accident waiting to happen. "I'll take this chainsaw and this handle of vodka, thanks!" lol
This was my thought! And for the record, my drunken home improvement projects rarely turn out perfect or get finished cause I start to focus more on the liquor than my measaurements.... lol.
Makes sense. H always refers to stuff around the house a xx beer job (as in how many beers he needs to consume while doing that job). Shoveling snow, 6 beer job where as hanging a picture is a 1 beer job. A place like this would allow him to buy everything he needs to finish the job in one spot.
