Sugar is disguise. After my WLS I was supposed to avoid that the way I did sugar. It's in a lot of things including yogurt. I haven't had an issue with disgusting it but I only have it in small amounts.
Sugar alcohols give me horrible gas and stomach pains. And I don't really like how they taste. I actively avoid eating them because of how miserable they make me feel. I don't think they're necessarily unhealthy, but the gas and pain isn't worth it to me.
Sugar alcohols are artificial sweetners, but they're different because they typically have less effect on blood glucose - one of my friends that was diabetic could have things that had sugar alcohols, but not some other artificial sweetners...
