My hair is very thick, some wave, kept in a pixie cut. I like to use Tea Tree or Lavender Mint shampoo when I wash it. I usually wash every other day when not sweaty or gross. Off days when showering, I sometimes rinse if it's crazy looking. I use conditioner rarely in the cooler seasons, because it's thick and healthy for the most part.
My problem is pool season and that it feels like I want to wash it and I do, but sometimes I am in the pool-saltwater-twice a day. I am wondering about still shampooing 4x a week, but co-washing after a swim.
I'm not familiar with co-washing, and I don't swim that often, but last time I was on vacation with a pool I just rinsed after swimming in the pool (or sometimes used conditioner) and was surprised by how well that worked. In general, chlorine itself isn't an oil that has to be broken down with soap, so rinsing takes care of most of the issue. I only use shampoo every 8-9 days (gradually reducing that frequency due to bad scalp issues).
I co-wash mostly in the winter. I have an oily scalp in summer, so I was never able to get over the 2-3 week hump of greasy hair before the oil production slowed.

I have to shampoo my hair every morning. It's very oily. I usually swim at lunch a few times a week and just use conditioner when I shower post-swim It works great. I do my want to shampoo my hair more than once a day.
