I know we have discussed this a million times but humor me which pump do I want insurance will cover either. I had a medela single with Brady but milk always went into the tubes Ameda purely yours. Comes with tote Or medela pump in style. Just comes with bottles no tote bag or backpack
My Ameda was fine, just not as fast as the hospital-grade I rented instead. However, it was purchased, by me, before the ACA.
The IBCLC who runs my local group has been hearing lots of reports from her peers about substandard pumps from insurance companies in general. Apparently (and I'm sorry, I can't find a source online), both Ameda and Medela are making pumps especially for insurance companies that are less efficient than the OTC kind. In my local group, even some medium-supply moms are challenged and end up up buying OTC or renting (these are regular pumpers who work FT primarily). No reason to get the freebie but if you find it inefficient, don't blame your boobs. If you get a Medela, those parts can usually be used with a hospital grade rental, should that become necessary.

DO NOT GET THE AMEDA unless you will only need it occasionally. I had an APY years ago with DS1 and it was fabulous. I used it with my two yr old too. I got a free APY through insurance and it's TERRIBLE.
I called CS who said that the newer pumps are made in China whereas the older pumps were made in Switzerland. They now have a "gentler suction". I have a brand new APY sitting here and I instead choose to use my 9 yr old pump.

I was going to say the same thing. I have been using my old APY every morning, but for work I got a PISA through insurance. I noticed that some of the medical supply companies had specific "insurance pumps." I read the same thing as Kasper is saying, so I decided to try the PISA. I haven't had a problem with it.
Thanks ladies I will definitely stick with medela. Interesting about the pumps being same name but different quality through insurance. I will just be an occasional pumper which is why I had the single last time.
Interesting about the "less powerful" free pumps. I got the hygiea q from insurance and it worked well. Then it broke and I had to call them and they sent me a replacement but instead of Q it was the Enjoye. I can't even turn the power up to 1/4 on the dial because it feels like it's going to suck my nipple off.
So I assume the Enjoye is their "non freebie" and therefore more powerful
A colleague of mine is pregnant and I was telling her to get a PISA. Another colleague overheard and told her that there was no need to get an electric as she had used her hand pump in the toilet at work successfully for months! Hahahah
