Grrrr....so the painter who took a week to call me back came tonight for an estimate. We gave him the run down-walls only, no ceiling/trim, already bought SWDuration matte at 40% off, etc. He immediately started saying he hates Duration and it's not going to be washable. That SW Promar 200 is cheaper and better. That I should return it. That it won't cover up the water marks on the walls. That he stopped working for the builder our neighbor used because of some spat. You get the idea. Lots of speaking poorly of everything. He said if we still wanted to use the duration he would still do it.
He apparently owns a Pittsburgh Paint store (idea) and says I should get their Manor Hall paint. It won't have problems like Duration, etc. He went through our house so fast, it was crazy.
The other painters I've talked to (and you guys) love Duration. So what's this guy's issue? Am I missing something?

eh, everyone likes different paint for different reasons. My guys use Dutch Boy, but are also happy to use Behr or Valspar. They don't usually use SW or BM brand paints.
The guys who painted the exterior of our old house had never used Duration, because their clientele normally doesn't want to pay a lot and they ask for something from HD or lowes because they don't know anything about paint brands from actual paint stores. Our painter and his crew had great things to say about the Duration when they were finished though.
In my few experiences with PPG, I would not recommend it. My old condo was painted with Porter, and it was terrible. It was not washable, and it bubbled and peeled in the bathrooms. Maybe I'd try them again, but probably not.
He's definitely just trying to sell you his paint from his store. It's kind of despicable that he's not up front about owning a paint store.

Eh, our painter preferred Behr because, well, probably because he bought all his stuff at Home Depot and was most familiar with it. And it was easy for him to pick it up. But when we had to have the walls REpainted after the fire, our other contractor, who has been painting for over 50 years, said he liked Behr and it goes on really smooth, so he was happy to use it (we just gave him the colors - we didn't want to have to pick out new colors or color match). Many painters WILL use whatever you want, but many also have a preference. Obviously this guy is most familiar with Pittsburgh. WONDER WHY. Lol.
