So, the stars might align for DH and I to get a bit of a vacation. I have a business trip next month in a city near Hamburg, and DH thinks he can get leave to join me for the trip (and for a handful of days before the meeting).
Has anyone here been to Hamburg? Any must-see/do recs?
(I've been to Germany before, but mostly to Frankfurt and area with a couple days here or there in a few northern-ish German towns like Hannover and Magdeburg... DH has never been to Germany as an adult)

I really liked Bremen and I think its less than 2 hours from Hamburg. I was there at the end of November so I just wandered around the center of town and explored the Christmas market, a few of the churches and checked out the statues scattered around town. Its a cute town.
Another option is Erfurt. Thats a few hours by train so definitely an overnight trip.
Magdeburg? How did you end up there? I was there for a concert and to meet up with friends but there really isnt much there. It does have a very small medieval section of their christmas market but that was the most exciting thing I saw.

All of my previous trips to Germany were for work. A few trips I managed to grab an extra day or two, but that was generally fairly limited in scope/time... Magdeburg was earlier this year, and I had almost no time outside of work to do any exploring...
