If you plan on working out regularly, I'd really recommend going to a running store to get fitted. Everyone's foot shape is different and you may need more or less support in different places than other people.
This. If you aren't into going in, the shoe advisor on Brooks's site works well. Brooks are my go-to for running.
I bought a pair of Asics Gel Exault a few months ago for jogging/walking/cardio. I love them. They are really supportive and comfortable. I got them on Amazon.

A specialty running store will have staff who can evaluate you so that you are sure to get something that works for you. Everyone has different arch, pronation (or not), need for support, etc.
Some common brands that people love include Brooks, Asics, Newtons, Saucony, Mizuno....I have only found a certain model of Asics and a certain model of Saucony to work for me. One of my close friends immediately feels pain in her knees when she tries any model of Asics though. So that is why you really should get fitted. And go for what works and is functional and comfortable, not for just what is cute (being cute is a bonus though lol)
I love my brooks but I get them from the running store. Everytime I go in I always get fitted for new shoes and it's always brooks. I also found that I needed to with a wide width and that made a difference.
I have the Asics Gel Impression 3 and love them. I think they're an older style now, but I like their whole Gel line. To me they have great cushion and support, especially for the price.
I'm a big fan of Brooks and Saucony. I just got some new Brooks Ghost 7s that seem a little wider/have more lateral stability than a typical running shoe and I've been wearing them for some lifting/high impact aerobics, and I'm a fan so far.
