Do you know what's weird? I get weirded out by the name "Dress Barn" and think it's all moo-moos, yet I don't think negatively of the home designs from "Pottery Barn."
Good point, neither do I. I don't know why PB chose that name either, although it kind of works for them, especially now with the farmhouse revival. But clothing - no. I'm surprised Dress Barn hasn't changed their name, or at least tried to rebrand as "DB" or something. I guess it doesn't bother people enough to hurt their sales.
I never went into Dress Barn even though it is the closest store to my house. As others have said, I think it is the name. I finally went in a few months ago and was surprised by how many cute things they have.
I have to admit I had a bad impression of it until I saw all the cute things @mrsspunky would post from there when we used to do ootd.
I haven't bought much from there, but when I needed a last-minute outfit for a job interview and also a dress for my daughter's christening, I was able to find something nice quickly
I assumed it was an old lady store based on the name... but a girl at work always has the cutest outfits and told me she mostly shops there so it made me check it out. I have been in a few times and have found some really nice things for decent prices- I love clearance rack shopping I got a really pretty blue wrap dress for $16 last summer.
It doesn't ever happen in the Newport store near my work, but I always get great customer service at the one in Warwick.
I normally go to the one in Attleboro or the outlet in wrentham. The staff members are mostly cantankerous old ladies. I rarely go to Warwick - it's RI far....
I went there once and they hardly had any dresses, which was weird to me (and annoying, since that's what I was shopping for). It was winter and they had a few holiday clearance dresses, and otherwise it was pretty much pants and sweaters.
From this post it looks like that's not the norm, so maybe I'll have to give it another chance.

Thanks for this. I totally forgot about the dress barn in my town and I need a dress. Lol. I have bought dresses there in the past and really liked them.
I'm currently wolfing down my lunch in a Dress Barn parking lot so I can go in and browse. Even if I don't find anything I like, I'll have had Arby's for lunch, which is a rarity for me (it's around the corner from DB). So it's already a no-lose situation.

Update: There were a few cute things, but nothing that compelled me to buy it right now. I saw several dresses that would have been great if I still worked in my old, business-dress office. But now I work mostly in offices (plural - I freelance) that are all pretty casual. I didn't get anything today, or even try anything on, but when it's time to shop for fall, I'll be stopping there for sure. Thanks for the rec @buckybells!
And since I had extra time, I strolled over to Half Price Books and picked up a few fun books - one about Chuck Close, one about Curb Your Enthusiasm (which I had no idea existed), and one about the history of women in rock. Books + Arby's + a potential new place to shop = a good lunch hour.
They just opened a store near my house. I've never been in a Dress Barn, mostly because it sounds like somewhere an 80 year old Pentecostal lady would stock up on sack dresses.
I just "found out" about dressbarn this summer and bought a few dresses! I loved them so much, I started raving to my younger sister about them since she's always looking for work dresses.

You must pack an overnight bag for Wrentham, then
So off topic (although I've been to the Warwick one) but I was just having an "RI far" discussion with DH today (told him we really didn't go to Wickford all that often because it's "so far ".. From EG

Yes! I always forget about going there. It's right next to the Old navy in my city, so I usually hit them both up when shopping.
They have a pretty good selection of plus size stuff. I have gotten a few dresses there for weddings, a couple casual blazers, and colored skinny jeans that have held up really well.
I also bought one of my fave maxi dresses there that I wear to work frequently and also wore for Easter:
