I mostly lurk but am a SB native, so I had to share! This is making me hungry
Los Arroyos or Los Agaves - best mexican food - some people feel very strongly that one is better than the other. I prefer Los Arroyos! Los Arroyos has a quick serve place downtown and a sit down restaurant in Montecito. Food is a little more upscale than Rose Cafe (below). Carlitos is good too but expensive and a little scene-y. I'd pick Los Arroyos or Los Agaves over Carlitos. Rose Cafe - Mesa location - best home style Mexican food. You won't find anything fussy here. It's a total locals place and DELICIOUS! Super Rica for street style mexican food. Go early, the line can stretch around the block. La Colmena or Taquieria El Bajio are delicious also. Valentino's - great sandwiches but not downtown, you'd need a car Oilo and Limone - date night restaurant Via Maestra - best italian in SB, but on upper state so you'd need a car Scarlette Begonia - yummy brunch Ca Dario The Palace - live music, fun cajun restaurant Arigato - sushi (expensive) - or Edomasa - inexpensive sushi Downey's - fancy french restaurant Toma - this is the new hot restaurant in town so it can be hard to get a table, but beautiful water views Jeannie's Bakery - great breakfast/brunch, if you go to the upper state street or montecito location the wait won't be as long Metropulos - deli in the funk zone (lots of wine/beer tasting around there) Natural cafe - yummy, fresh, great for lunch or dinner. Everything is super healthy and delicious.
