I did. It was fun but I don't think I'd do it again. I was poor and stayed off the strip. Big mistake since they close the strip completely down. Cab lines were only at 4 hotels; 2 on each end of the strip. We tried heading back to our room about 2am and were told the cab lines were 2-3 hours.
Nightclubs with view of the strip and with celebrity hosts were a pretty penny. You pretty much needed to be where you wanted to ring in the new year by 9 or so, there was no navigating the strip.
I read in the paper a couple days later they believed there were more than 300,000 people on the strip that night.
We went with another couple one year. It was fun, but I wouldn't do it again. It was crazy crowded. We stayed at the Excalibur and could see the fireworks display from the front of the hotel, but it wasn't a great view and there were too many people to venture much closer. All the NYE "events" were expensive so we just hung out in the casino and gambled and drank all night. Watching the fireworks was the only New Years Eve-y thing we did.
I hate crowds, though. Even at home I refuse to go anywhere on NYE unless it's a house party because I don't like dealing with the masses that much.
