The girls and I recently had a Karate Kid marathon and they rolled their eyes out of their heads when I said how dreamy Ralph Macchio was and that I had his poster on my wall as a kid.
Well, I've already shared (many times) my disgust with Pretty Woman. It was my favorite movie EVAH as a kid and then I watched a couple of years ago....and
Then Grease. That was another one that was funny (and previously discussed) that I watched as an adult and totally WTF'ed.
I have some movies that I just know I'll never be able to watch again and appreciate. 3 Ninjas? Adored that movie as a kid. But I'll never see it again, because it's probably awful. Bingo. Problem Child. I just can't do it.
Oh the 3 Ninjas were a huge favorite at our house growing up. I own it on DVD but haven't watched it in years. I'm afraid to because it might ruin the nostalgia I feel when I think of it.

I recently re-watched Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves. I'm pretty sure child/pre-teen (I watched this movie over and over and over growing up and still have the VHS!) me did not understand why Morgan Freeman was calling Kevin Costner "Christian" but I got it this time and was like, "Ahhhhh, that makes sense!" lol.
My babysitter took us to see that movie in the theater. I was like, 8. OMG. What was she thinking?!

this reminds me...
I watched Robin Hood Men in Tights. Or rather I made my family watch it with me. Still cracks me up!
NOOOOO, you dont understand, I love it now too. Lol just cant believe I watched it as young as I did.
Oh yeah, totally. That abortion subplot? Like I had ANY idea what the hell was going on.
Omg, I totally did not get that as a kid. Pretty sure I had no idea what was up with that whole thing. And I adored Dirty Dancing as a kid and watched it a million times. Now I'm like "ohhhh"
It's also good for coming to terms with those movies that scared us as kids. I was scared to death of the movie "Prince of Darkness" when I was a kid. I watched some of it a couple of years ago (with one eye covered), and it was so friggin cheesy! It doesn't work for all movies, though. The Exorcist scared the hell out of me when I first saw it. I recently saw the beginning of the extended director's cut, where they showed the girl crawling on the walls like a spider, and I noped right out of there.
My husband had never seen Men in Tights until a few months ago when I forced him to. Fucking love that movie. But I love Mel Brooks in general. Dracula: Dead and Loving It is my all-time fave, even though it's way more obscure.
OK, I was 16 when Dirty Dancing came out, so the abortion was no mystery for me, lol, and I'm curious: what did you guys think was happening to Penny? Like when they said "he had a dirty knife and a folding table" while she was writhing in pain?
I was really young when I first saw this, like way too young to have been watching this but my gma loved it and let me watch it with her, and I honestly think my only thought was "oh, she's sick. When are they gonna dance more?" and never really thought more about it.

Honestly, I don't know. I think I just thought she was sick. I think I was in jr high or high school when my uncle pointed out that the abortion plot would have been "ok" (or more responsible or something) with him if they'd then shown Johnny and Baby practicing safe sex and I was like, "Oooh."
Max and I watched karate kid and I mostly thought about how terrible the music is. And then I had to explain miyagi's drunken scene.
I watched all sorts of movies that were probably inappropriate for my age growing up. Stand By Me, dirty dancing, pretty woman. Probably not appropriate for an elementary aged kid :/
I've been binge watching Looney Tunes/Bugs Bunny cartoons and it has a warning on each disc about how some of the episodes contained racist and sexist remarks and how they were wrong then and they are wrong now.
When I was little, all that stuff went over my head. Now, I had to skip through some of the episodes because my grandchildren were watching with me and some of the suicide references/attempts made me uncomfortable.
I just wanted Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck arguing about duck season vs. rabbit season but of course, Elmer Fudd shoots Daffy Duck right in the face many times over. I'm super uptight about guns but it absolutely cracks me up each time.
