We have a few big races this year in local politics. Gubernatorial, mayor of the city, and also in my district the state house rep (our former rep, the speaker of the house, got raided by the FBI and is not running for re-election and resigned the speakership).
I'm really tired of the people going door to door and the phone calls. Not to mention the commercials.
I hate being mean to people on the phone, so I got sucked into like a 30 minute call yesterday for one of the gubernatorial candidates. I am still undecided, and I told the woman that, and we actually had a nice call. Then she offered to have the candidate call me. I was like umm....no that isn't necessary.
The primary isn't even until September. I don't know if I can make it.
I'm with you. Today is election day here and I forgot to vote this morning, which means I'll have to go after work....when all I want to do is nothing. If I didn't know myself well enough to know I'd be pissed at myself if I didn't vote (there are a few issues on the ballot that I care about), I would skip.

I am annoyed also, but only b/c I'm in the state with the worst Senator options and we might lose the democratic seat b/c the candidates are both utterly terrible...
MT has the idiot Dem who wrote a 14-page thesis paper that was primarily plagiarized and looked the other way as a supervisor when women in the military were being sexually assaulted. And the Repub candidate is a colossal douche who has voted to ban abortions and co-sponsored about 10 bills to restrict women's rights and votes with the repubs about 94% of the time. I hate our options and am embarrassed for our state already.

I don't want to vote. I'm hoping someone will rise for the ashes of this big mess. I think Schweitzer is going to go on to bigger and better things though...VP maybe?
Seriously agree on not wanting to choose. I might just write someone in, but then it's basically a vote for the most party-line Republican in MT history. Why didn't Schweitzer jump into the race for Baucus' seat? Do you think it's b/c he openly dismissed Baucus' agreements with the health-care community and K-street?
Seriously, how did we get this far when MT had the first EVER woman congressperson in 1916 and hasn't had once since!?! It's so frustrating.
I will count myself lucky. I was reluctant for DH to cut out the home phone 5 years ago, and to cut the cable this year. But I don't miss them now, and no political commercials or phone calls. Whee! I do occasionally get people at the door, but there is usually chaos behind me (dog barking, kids running wild), so I get out of those rather quickly.
Now, direct mail is still an issue. Are there "do not mail" lists?
I'd rather seek out the info myself. The postcard from the candidate tells me nothing.

I am so over it. The R candidate for governor's entire platform seems to be to point out that the D candidate sometimes votes with OBAMA and PELOSI OH NOES and it's fucking working. The idiots in this state are going to elect him. The hilarious/sad part is that the D candidate is one of the least loyal democrats in congress who votes against the party almost as much as with them. But whatever, he and Obama belong to the same party so obviously he is unfit to govern us.
