After that post, I finally got the guts up to call the psychiatric nurse that my counselor referred me to (months ago, but still) and she's not taking new patients. womp womp. So I got on our insurance site and just started calling nearby places. No one is taking insurance patients right now. None.
I feel so defeated. I finally got my ass in gear and I can't find a damn person to take me. I have my yearly wellness appointment on the 19th and I'm wondering if I should just talk to my doctor? He's a D.O, so I'm not sure if that'll make a difference. I didn't really like my counselor, so I don't want to go back to her for another referral.
I would start with you D.O. and go from there. Maybe he can start you with a Rx and a referral for a later date. I missed the first post...are you on any ADs? Hugs, it sucks when you don't feel "right".
Can you see one of these doctors and be reimbursed by your insurance? My psychiatrist in HS did that.
I'd like to find someone who will take insurance first. I can't even keep track of most paperwork, so I'm not trusting myself to submit regular paperwork to the insurance

Not on anything right now. My counselor said she was 99% sure I have ADD, but I've kinda been avoiding it because meds scare me. I hate even taking tylenol unless I'm really hurting.

Fair enough.
My dad works for Anthem so it was pretty breezy for him to get my stuff reimbursed.
It's so frustrating to deal with trying to make appointments and insurance, especially for psychiatric care.
I would definitely start with your doctor and maybe they could give you some referrals to doctors that are accepting patients. When I've done outpatient medicine we've called to make patient appointments a lot, especially for hard to get appointments like psych or derm.
I hope you can find something soon, hang in there.
I am on 150mg Welbutrin. One of my first posts was to ask for help with my depression issues. I was raised with the thought that Rxs were for "crazy people" and angry was just who we were. I reached out to my PCP, and she was surprisingly knowledgable about the different kinds, etc. i know talk therapy is a godsend for a lot of people, and there is definite judgment (perhaps rightfully so) in getting Rx from a PCP. Talk therapy didn't help my irritability or anger/depression. I feel 1000% better and I wish I did this years ago.

I hate this, but this is how I was raised and so was DH. He was even diagnosed as a kid for ADD, and his mom refused to put him on anything, which is MIND BLOWING since she worked in healthcare!
My dad was on Wellbutrin when we were kids to help him quit smoking and it was the best I've ever seen him. I wish there wasn't a stigma attached to it.
