It looks like there are a lot of people here looking for new jobs and going on interviews! I'm curious, how/when did you decide it's time to look for a new job?
-when the job isn't challenging enough -when there is no room for advancement but you want to advance -when the work atmosphere is miserable -when you aren't being paid what you're worth
Everything that mellymel said, plus the fact that my employer was going through a financial crisis and I didn't want to stay along for the ride. Good thing I left when I did, because they cut my position and a few others months after I left.
* when the work turns out to be uninteresting and there's no way to fix it * When there's no one left you work with regularly that you can learn from, and/or no one you'd enjoy mentoring * When the politics become unpleasant and unavoidable * when you realize you could cut your total commuting time from 160 minutes to 60 minutes per day
When challenges become only problems When I started having panicky feelings when my cell phone would buzz at home When a former colleague emailed me and told me to apply for a new job

I'm struggling with my commute right now. It's about 60 minutes each way (90 is with daycare drop off/pick up 1-2x per week), and I currently work 3 days in the office but need to increase to 4 soon. I generally like my job but don't know how sustainable this is going to be.

When there are more bad days than good.
When you have an "ugggggh FUCK ok here we go again" feeling when your hand hits the entrance door each morning.
When you're complaining enough about your job (or just bringing unhappiness home that you can't shake) that it affects your relationships. We all have bad days, you come home and bitch over a glass of wine and shake it off. When you can't shake it off, it's time to move on.

From prior jobs (not my current one which I love): -when there is no more room for growth/learning -when you are told that you will be doing the exact same thing for the next 30 years, when you ask about career learning and growth -when you have to keep teaching your boss how to do his job over and over again -when you are not respected as a person or a professional -when your boss blames you for all his fuck ups and takes credit for all your successes -when your boss gets into a shouting match with you about how you can't go to your friends funeral and your friend won't know you're not there since he's dead, and you tell him if he really feels that way he can fire you when you get back from the funeral -when your boss is abusive -when a coworker tells you if you were in his home country you'd be beaten regularly and never allowed to work, or even leave the house without a man's permission and that's that way it should be, and people think you are the one with a problem for objecting to this -when you are told you look retarded when your face is numb from emergency dental work -when you cry nearly every night about work -when the company is a train wreck financially -when your paycheck bounces or is late -when you catch your boss committing fraud and he tries to get you to cover up for him/agree with him -when you call the professional ethics hotline on your boss -when none of the promised raises or benefits materialize -when your boss tries to get you to co-sign or use your personal credit for company loans
I was actually nowhere near ready to leave my current job, but DH got a new job...in a different state...so it seems like I have no choice. I am excited about my prospects and think I may be even happier somewhere new.
niq yes, I'm taking the bus, I like it too but I still end up driving quite a bit - 10 minutes to daycare, then another 10 to the P&R. Driving all the way downtown would take just as long and cost way more with parking ($400+/month in my building). We're only on week 2 of daycare so I'm giving it some time to see how horrible it is.
When it's not challenging anymore. When it becomes redundant. When you're tired of the hours and don't care to get things done in a timely manner. When you don't have anything new to contribute...or in my position, new ideas for new projects. When you don't feel a sense of accomplishment or a thrill from the good work you did. When you're willing to take a pay cut.
Other things in the past: When you dread every second you're there. When you have to take a deep breath before walking in for another day, Then you drag your feet in there and take a deep breath every time someone sits at your desk for help.
I've been feeling like I want to do something else a lot lately. I guess I'm just tired of being self-employed with no freedom. I see you all going on all these nice vacations but we can barely get away for a weekend...together...without rushing to get home by 6pm Sunday night.

Holy fuck, I agree with all of these posts. I'm living them.
Mine would be: - when dread about work is affecting your health, your marriage and other relationships. - when you routinely cry driving to work - when you distrust your boss - when you have no faith on the organization - when you have no growth potential in the current position.
