Basically just stay away from The Gap, and AT/AT Loft and you're good. None of them have sparkling clean slates, but those are the worst offenders.
Can you give me an idea of what I'm left with? Please note that I usually shop at Marshall's when I'm feeling fancy, but they haven't had anything I like in a while.

I do Talbots sometimes. I'm trying to think of other places but I'm coming up blank at the moment.

That's okay. I started looking around and my eyes crossed. I may give up before I've really started. lol

I can get good stuff at ModCloth, too! I've gotten great cardigans and skirts there.
I can't do skirts and dresses. I hate wearing them and feel stupid the whole time. I need pants and the freedom to hop a fence at a moments notice that they bring.
Talbots, The Limited, JCrew, Boden... there are more I just can't think of them off the top of my head. Although the first 3 have some shady things going on that look like they've been settled recently.

I know L Brands (which used to own The Limited and Express) makes a good effort to ensure ethical sourcing. (see more here). But it can be really difficult when going through certain vendors who straight-up lie (which is what appears happened a few years back with VS, owned by L Brands. story). For the most part, though, they're familiar with customary practices in other countries and make decisions based off that. For example, I was at a roundtable with an exec who mentioned that they don't source from Bangladesh because they tend to be bad about complying with fire safety codes. This was a month before the tragic factory collapse in 2013. His words were haunting when I heard the news. Granted, it was a collapse, not a fire, but it all goes to the negligent upkeep of the buildings.
I don't know if you have one near you, but when I was working in a business casual environment, I shopped a lot at NY&Co. I loved that they have long length pants and their clothes looked nice without being super expensive. They also had frequent sales/discounts. Another favorite was The Limited, but I have no idea if they're affiliated with a sweatshop baddie or not.

Ooooh, they have bogo pants! You may have saved me from quitting altogether!

I just snorted b/c I don't know what you look like, but I just imagined you running full speed to fly over a fence in business casual with a coffee mug in hand.

AE - Good H&M - Questionable Talbots - Good Do I have to go brand by brand at Nordstrom? - Yes What shoes should I be staying away from? - I mainly know about athletic shoes: Nike, Adidas are no goes
So few of the "good" places carry tall tops. And those that do don't have much selection (The Limited has exactly 27, JCrew - 21.. none of which I can afford, ).
Swear to God, Pixy, if you ruin Eddie Bauer or JCPenney for me....
(AWWWWWWWWWWWWW! WHBM has an INDY on their homepage! but no tall tops...)
I can't find a outside source but NY&Co has a big statement of socially responsible labor practices. Any suggestions on where to double check this? I like their work clothes because they're halfway decent and cheap wih their never-ending sales.

The Limited has lots of sales/coupons and their sale/clearance racks are among the best that I've ever shopped through. I'd get on an e-mail list or something so you can get coupons.
